Default Who has the right of way?

Lets say car A is travelling north, car B is travelling south.

Both cars approach an uncontrolled intersection at the same time. (no yield or stop signs)

Car A wants to make a right turn to travel east.
Car B wants to make a left turn to also travel east.

Who has the right of way here?

I am pretty sure it would be car A as one is not suppose to make a left hand turn until it is safe to do so.

There is a reason it is called "right" of way.

I'm only asking because about once a week at the same intersection, some car turning left just comes flying around the corner as I'm turning right. I'm just trying to figure out why it's happening.

If there are two eastbound lanes, then it isn't a problem.

Because people are typically retarded, at least a solid 80%.

Car A has the right of way, Car B is crossing over traffic and must yield to Car A. If there are two lanes, Car A takes the right lane and Car B takes the left lane.

If you want to see a scary ass intersection go stand on a corner at Bow Trail and 37th. You'll see some scary ass retarded drivers going through there!

Ideally and legally, yes. But almost daily I see situations where Car B coming from a single turn lane moving into Car A's lane when making their turn, somehow thinking that both lanes are available to them.

In particular, I notice it often going home from work. I drive Northbound on Edmonton Trail, and turn Eastbound on McKnight. Cars travelling Southbound on Edmonton Trail and also going East on McKnight absolutely LOVE to turn into the right lane. The problem in this case is that a driver in my situation has a merge sign which means they are not supposed to go until it is "safe". And if everyone followed the rules, it *would* be safe. But it isn't.

Is this still true if you are car B, and you have an advanced green? Im thinking no.

Another thing to keep in mind, just cause yer in the right, does not mean it is going to end right. Drive a small car, bike or motorcycle around Calgary for a few days and you quickly become tuned into the laws of physics and the pack order. I wish I had the option of texting, too busy watching out for moving objects.

I can't imagine there would be a road anywhere that has an advance green coming one way turning left onto a single lane road. Chances are they are turning onto at least a two lane road in which case we're back to the idea of everybody turning into the correct lanes = no problems.

However if such an intersection existed I think the person turning left with the advance arrow would have the right of way because the guy coming the other way wanting to turn right would have a red light and can only proceed to the right when safe to do so.
