    Default 6x6 cedar posts

Anyone know where to buy 6x6 cedar in Calgary? None of the big box home improvement stores sell them.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

I'm sure they can be special ordered as well. Not a commonly purchased cut at a retail level.

Unless you really like the way 6X6 posts look -- they can be a PIA and are more likely to twist and split than smaller posts do..

Cedar Shop is the best place for Cedar anything. The box stores carry lower grade and more expensive lumber with limited selection.

I have 6x6 cedar posts and I don't see any twisting at all. I don't see how it would be worse than a 4x4.

I have also used the 6x4 cedar and they all look great and are much better than 4x4's.

The cedar shop had what I was looking for, thanks everyone.

    D. Dub - can you elaborate on the twisting issue? I'm building a pergola if that helps.

If you're building a pergola, might I suggest just getting normal cheap 4x4's, then cover them with high grade boards? Will be way cheaper and look better than getting high grade 6x6's.

If anything, i would say 4x4 posts twist way more than a 6x6 would.

It's not that they just twist. They crack and then twist much more than 4X4's do.

Although since the OP is looking at cedar it will be better than pressure treated ones.

But they are gonna be awfully spendy.

    That’s a good idea.

$7 a foot for 6x6 cedar, so $56 for an 8 foot length

Why do you think 6x6 twists or cracks more than 4x4?
