Default Minimum wage to $9.95 in Sept.

Sure as heck beats the US @ $7.25

The one thing the Obama admin has not done, is increase minimum wage all that much.
    Cocoa $11,000 per tonne.

Yeah, but it would take 45.5 hours for an American at min. wage to afford a Kel Tec Sub2000 9mm rifle when it would take an Albertan kid working at min. wage 61.3 hours!

6 days at Mcdonalds for a pretty sweet rifle is not bad, you gotta work 2 extra days in Alberta to get that rifle.

You would have to pay the Albertan kid $13.40 to work at mcdonalds at min wage to afford the same rifle the kid in USA can afford.

I think I'd rather be making $7.25 in Montana than $9.95 in Calgary.

Pretty big jump from back when I started working in the days of $5.90 and that wasn't even that long ago!

I remember making $4.25/hr in high school, and that was after I had gotten a raise

I remember the McDicks at Northland putting up a road side billboard in bright neon letters: $3 for part time and $4 for full time. Damn McDicks and their Styrofoam containers and wax lined cups.

Electricity may be 39 cents per kwh in Hawaii, but noone actually works there.

Basically, Hawaii is the US welfare state.

I'm pretty sure I'd be homeless and taking public transit on $9.95 in Calgary. At least in Montana with the lower wage you would be able to have a place to sleep and probably a car.

yeah, I also remember when you could buy a house in Calgary for $60,000 and $1 went a long way. Wage is relative to the cost of living

And yes it is possible to live on 20k/year in Calgary as a single young person. You can get rooms for $600, $300 for food and another $100 for misc is only about $1000/month with about $600 left over for savings or other misc spending. With 20k/yeah you're not going to be paying any income tax and a full time job at Walmart or McDicks wil get you benefits like dental. So while it's not a beyond.ca existence, if you're a smart resourceful person you can make it work.

I believe the stipend for science graduate students at UofC is still around $21k/year, so yes it is possible to live on that amount in calgary.

Wow $60k equivalent is pretty decent considering it's definitely way more than you can make working menial jobs. I've said it before and I'll say again: fighting poverty and equality to all... Leads to this.
You have a couple of photos that are great... you must be very good at photoshop!

So you can make $49,175/yr on welfare in Hawaii? You can live there EXTREMELY cheaply. No wonder nobody wants to work there haha, there's very little incentive. I don't like that at all - I think people should be heavily incentivised to not be leeches.
