Default inglewood train car (oil) derailment today at 1730hrs

Just got a call, an office building (north Manchester Industrial area) I was about to enter in Inglewood is being evacuated due to an oil car (at least six cars) derailment in the area. Traffic, etc might be a bit chaotic this late afternoon and evening as a result.

    Finally twitter catches up: http://globalnews.ca/news/834911/tra...heast-calgary/

Always scares the crap out of me.

They also transport thousands of tons of sulphur which can be nasty if it starts reacting with other things.

OP's link goes to Global BC's site which is displaying Pacific time which they reported on at 5:34 Mountain time - first tweet I saw was at 5:23 Mountain.
    Will fuck off, again.

Sweet, talked to the cops. Im not evacuated... yet. train took out a natural gas line but the wind is blowing away from us, so as long as it doesnt shift we are fine... the kicker? no one can get home since every route is blocked

Its damn quiet around here tonight! Plus i get the house to myself since the woman didnt make it home before they closed everything up

Terrible ride home today, Deerfoot was a parking lot, exited to Blackfoot to take Ogden home, emergency crews going by.
Take the first exit, train is stopped dead not moving at all, turn around and take the next exit, same thing.

Continue down Blackfoot to the next exit that goes under the bridge, traffic was slow as hell.

Finally a clear shot into the corner of downtown and I see more emergency vehicles downtown.

I know this is Sept 11th and all, but damn, this traffic was like a mini-9/11 all over again.

it's funny that the news report says that "officials" are still trying to determine what's in the cars, when in reality it's just that global news doesn't know what's in them. "officials" knew exactly what was in them.

I wish those f*cking environmentalists would realize the dangers of not building pipelines.

Lake Wabamum, the fire in Quebec, and this, are all solid examples of why fuel by rail isn't that great.

Crazy... I was on my bike waiting right by the self storage place on 17th ave. The train itself was huge, I was pissed it was taking so long then suddenly the train came apart right at the intersection. The cars didn't actually fall off track, but there was a really loud bang and a car got disconnected, then it stopped really - really fast. I guess that's what happens when the cars behind it fall off and start dragging.

There was enough force to break some of the cars apart so me and the other bikers waiting just walked around. Anyone else in that line is probably still sitting there. Funny that from where we were sitting, it just looked like it stopped because the cars got detached.

Edit: It happened a little before 4:30 mst.

Maybe they are right! When I design pipelines I buy the pipe with holes in it as steel is expensive and instead of welders I use junior high students
