    Talking My first car

    Hello everyone,

Pretty soon it will be time for me to buy my first car. Im kinda having trouble on deciding what to get. I dont plan on heavily modifying my car at all, maybe just some bolt on aftermarket stuff. I dont really want to have the fastest car around I just want something fun to drive that gets good gas mileage. Originally I was interested in getting a Mustang, but they dont get very good gas mileage. So I started looking at celicas and such but wasnt too impressed with what you get for what you pay. Then I saw the Tiburon which I like quite alot(even though its a hyundai). I really dont know much about these cars besides the fact that they have a rather low resale value which is good for me, they look sporty and from what I have heard are pretty fun to drive while getting good mileage. I am open to any suggestion, but, the number one thing is that I would like a reliable car. There is also the issue of insurance, my brothers is like $180 a month for an Accord. I am not biased towards domestic or import(just so you know). I can spend about $7000 but probably $8500 if I find the deal of the century and can talk my parents into it.

I kinda want something above the year 95 but I would be willing to go below that if I were to find a good buy (for reliabilities sake). As for the talon/eclipse If I could find a turbo one I would buy one in a heartbeat but there arent any near me. Who makes the Lazer?

the old tiburon doesn't have much aftermarket support, but are wickedly fun cars. My dad had one in South Africa and we did like 200kph in it, tons of fun. The insurance on it shouldn't be too high considering the displacement. Other than that, go with a 240 right now you could get a pretty nice one, and the prices should go up considering it's becoming such a popular car. Normaly I would say buy a civic hatch (light, cheap on gas, potential) but i'm sick of all the hondas. So buy whatever you want.

hows it going. Well i can see how u would want a good gas millage car but i would go with the mustang or an american car at least.
I still have my first car it is a van not to bad on gas great on insurance and comterable. i think u should go with a cavaler or escort something like that. that way u can still add on to it good gas and probaly insurance

Well in terms of Tiburons, the models 2000 and up are actually in my price range. Is it possible to get an exhaust for those that doesnt sound high pitched and not too loud(I hate the way all the civics and other cars sound) As for mustangs, I really dont know that much about them, Im assuming that bolt on mods will add alot of power because for those extra 4 cylinders(the 4.6l ones) dont seem that powerful. The preludes were actually one of my top three, but the only ones in my area were overpriced, I love the h22a though.

240sx! Dude, it's what I'm trying to get right now, if I could find one in this area for cheap...The 1997 models received a small body upgrade...and they look quite sporty. 155hp, RWD, nice torque, and handles very well...the engines are also quite reliable and such. They also sell the LE model of it, which has leather interior, and a lot of extra features which makes it even comfortable. Insurance wise, I have no clue...but I could try and find out.

Other than that car...maybe a Honda Prelude, Acura Integra, or..a Dodge Neon? I love those cars Hope I was of any help...

man I saw some crazy deals on 90-93 300ZX nissans for under $10G's. Thats what I would get, I use to have a 90 toyota supra which I drove 120K's and only did oil changes and replaced tires. those toyota and Nissan V6's are just fantabulous for reliability, if you're buying a car with over 100K's I would suggest this V6 engine b/c it's great and also easier to sell down the line.

All those cars sound good. Today I saw a Contour svt and I must say I thought that car was pretty sick. I wanted the contour really bad, but I imagine the insurance is going to be really bad(I cant call our insurance company today). So Im curious if anyone here knows, if I can get one of the normal v6 models up to svt spec without to much effort. The mpg seems darn good for a v6 as well.

Contours are terrible cars - bad resale value, poor fuel mileage, and unreliable. If you want reliability, get a good import.

Most of the people who own them say they are pretty good

I dont mean to degrade what you say, but I hope your not biased because you drive an import.

Good cars, but they arent quick - ultimately, you can make anything fast...

So what would yo suggest besides, prelude/240sx/civic/eclipse there either arent any in my area too expensive or I dislike em.

The six cylinder mustangs get pretty good mpg, can those be made to be real quick with a relatively low amount of money?

The only contour i would drive would be the SVT... no doubt about it. I really dont know how good the build quality is for those things, but if I saw one for the right price i might go for it. As for a Jetta 2.0... they do call that engine 2.slow for a reason, hell i rather go for a TDI than a 2.0. (no offense to 2.0 owners).
