Default Honda Michelin PAX wheels - Any value?

Well, I'm a moron, let's get that out of the way first thing. I bought some used wheels for my Honda Odyssey, and it turns out they are from the dreaded PAX runflat system that Honda experimented with. My Van doesn't use that, and the tires on these rims are junk.

    Couple questions:
    1) can conventional tires be mounted on these rims? (initial reports say no)
    2) is there any kind of used market for these rims?

Ideally, I'd like to just sell the whole mess to someone else, but the odd tire size is a dead giveaway. Sample Ebay listing of the crap I bought

So you just got rims? Ya you're screwed.. Can only mount PAX on these. My dad's van came with them from the factory and he's just waiting for them to die so he can replace with regular rims.

The rims do have the factory Michelin All Season tires on them, but they are pretty beat up. I was counting on mounting winter tires on these rims, so i wasn't worried about how crappy those tires were.

Huh? All 'depaxing' means is you replace your PAX tires and rims with non-PAX tires and rims. There's actually no way to mount a regular tire on a PAX rim, which is what OP is getting at. And no one in their right mind would buy used PAX rims and tires. Well, maybe except OP.

don't assume I'm in my right mind, right now the evidence doesn't support that.

I can't comment about the used market, but since you bought it used and not new, I'd try to resell it. I'm not a fan of the run-flat tires. My dads honda has a set and I did a bit of research for him. In theory, in an emergency they sound like they'd be great but apparently, if they're punctured and you drive on them they're pretty much unrepairable. I forget the exact amount of kms, but it was around 70 kms I believe. I'd rather carry a spare tire than worry about driving too much on the tire and not being able to repair it. Like I said, it's good for emergencies, but a spare tire works just as well in a pinch. I guess it's just more of a hassle for those who don't know how to change a tire

Also, they don't really seem to be catching on so I don't see the tires getting cheaper any time soon. If I were in your position, I'd see if I could sell them without losing much money, since you bought them used anyways.

Hahaha your username doesn't help your situation...

Anyways sorry I shouldn't be a dick since you probably shelled out some good $$$ for these. But yeah, just sell them to someone else and cut your losses. Replacement cost of the tires is something like $1200.. And that's just for shitty LX4 all-seasons.

The PAX system is pretty retarded. You need to find a special PAX dealer to actually get them mounted and/or fixed. Even more retarded is that they'll last 125 miles but you only have 125 miles to actually find a PAX service centre, which is not easy sometimes if you're in the middle of nowhere.

PAX was ONLY offered on the US Touring model starting in 2007 (it was standard equipment) and then became an option in 2008 (which I assume no one went for). I don't even think it's offered in the current model. They never offered PAX on Canadian cars as there's hardly any PAX centres here.

Shitty deal. I'd never heard of those before and would have probably done the same and bought them assuming I could just throw winters on. At least the price of Aluminum is decent right now.

I'm starting to suspect I may be an idiot.

I don't feel too bad, since these were never offered in Canada, and were on less than half of the US models for those four years, I feel like not knowing to look out for them wasn't some common-sense error.

In any case, I have a couple of people who have responded to my kijiji advert, so hopefully they can deal with this.

Ahhh, the degenerates on Kijiji appear to be smarter than me. I have had a few people inform me how useless these are.

So far, looks like I have some handsome paperweights.

I wonder if you couldn't get the 2nd lip machined down to be usable?

I would guess that even if it's possible, custom machining these wheels would cost me more than finding a better set of used wheels somewhere. Plus, with "custom made" wheels, I would bet most tire shops would be pretty picky about mounting tires, and might refuse warranty.
Plus, it's super hard to even remove these stupid tires apparently. Need some kind of special machine I think.

I am already booked into UrbanX to get some winter tires put on my stock factory wheels. At least that way the TPMS will work.

So, after some very frustrating Kijiji experiences, it looks like these are no good to anyone.

If any beyonder would like these, I am offering them FREE to anyone who can pick them up.

I will give beyond.ca the first crack, but I really need them gone, so they will be free on kijiji before the weekend if over.
PM for details if you are interested. Could be an interesting project for someone with time, space or inclination.

Hey, thanks for the helpful PM's and responses in this thread. Those stupid wheels sold tonight. Guy phoned his mechanic from my yard, mechanic told him the wheels were useless, but the guy bought them anyway. Pretty funny exchange.
