Default Vinyl Tint on the speedo?

For the life of me, I just can't stand that pale greenish colour on my speedo display and I found that the new civic's have a really neat blue/purleish colour on their digital speedo. My question is, would a blue vinyl tint work on this?

This is what mine looks like

This is what I'm hoping for (just the digit colour)

Lighting shouldn't be an issue since the speedo can be turned pretty bright, I'm only using the minimum setting right now.

I'm sure it would work, once you take your cluster apart it's basically just a sheet of plastic that sits over a bunch of lights.

I'd first recommend looking on ebay and finding a replacement sheet (I don't know what the plastic thing's called). They're usually pretty cheap, will likely give you a cleaner look.
We stopped checking for monsters under our beds when we realized they were inside us.

remember elementary school when you mixed water colour paints? i think the same principle would apply here... if you want blue and you put blue over it since the light behind is still tinted you wouldnt get exactly what you were aiming for

Many a cab ride to downtown in Priuses makes me think it's not a Civic gauge cluster he wants to modify.

ding ding ding, n1zm0 knows his shit

Just to see what the colour looks like, used a red gift transparent wrapper leftover from the wifey and it turned the gauge into a red/purpleish tint

Anyway, this is a bit more problematic than i anticipated, apparently the speedo is projected up from down below and the hybrid indicator is an actual LCD display. If I were to cover up the clear plastic, the speedo side will have the green reflection on it

Have you checked out any vinyl shops? I've only ever been to Victory Vinyl, but they have a huge selection of stuff, I'd imagine they have some really light tints you could try. But be forewarned, you usually have to buy at least 12'' x however wide the roll is (at least 12'' as well).

i did a led swap on my cluster

changed it from white to blue

    http://webpages.charter.net/dodadew/Matrix/ledcluster/

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/100pcs-POWER...-/130701846045

had to open up my cluster and desolder all the leds and resolder new ones. the mod itself only cost me 5$ in parts and a few hours in labour

if your good with a soldering iron and your cluster uses LED's for illumination it might be worth doing. you could try to find a cluster from a junkyard to try it on first.

no kidding, he did an amazing job! I'm not very good at soldering (only did it in uni) so I'll just have to stick w/ my vinyl solution for now until someone comes up with a aftermarket cluster of some sort.

I want to do this on my car, which is also a toyota so it should be made similar to yours. how would you rate the difficulty on 1-10? never soldered anything before

Older cars are easier than new cars for a led swap. But really it just needs patience.
I've found, putting the whole board in the oven makes for an easier time in desoldering.

If you've never soldered anything before, you might want to practice. SMT led's are little trickier than the push through ones.

it's for a 2nd gen lexus GS so i can't conveniently grab a junk climate control to practice on, do you guys think a camry/corolla of the same year will be built similar?
