I want a million in liquid assets by the time I'm 35.Originally posted by Sugarphreak
This was one of the most ambitious goals as I set out for myself in my early 20's, I wanted to have a million dollars worth of net worth (net assets minus liabilities).
Sadly I suck and my 30th has come and gone and I missed it by quite a bit.
Anybody else aiming for this? Anybody get close?
What is the target age somebody should be aiming for to hit this milestone?
I don't chase money. I am focusing on chasing happiness and contentment and personal satisfaction, and developing better relationships with my family, friends and community. If extra money comes along with that then that is just fine, but if it doesn't, I am still going to be happy, content and satisfied in the person I am, with people around me who I care about.
That isn't knocking someone who feels that they are happy trying to accumulate wealth, but I know to many miserable wealthy people to make that aspect my priority in life.
Awesome if it happens, but it isn't going to make or break time on this earth...

I'd probably aim around 35, unless something really out of the ordinary happened (won lotto, etc).
I rather delay it by 5 years and not be too sacrificial about my lifestyle. That's an excuse really, because I'm sure there might be some people who can be a millionaire by 30 and live lavishly on the way there.
I've been fairly disciplined so far, but man it is tough. I haven't even bought my first new car yet, who am I kidding?

26 and I have 4 years..I'm thinking more 35
GO FLAMES GO!
That's a pretty ambitious goal. I am a few months away from 30 and will be missing it by quite a bit.
This is going to be the most hilarious poll result on beyond ever....
I think a lot of people have achieved your definition of "millionaire" by 30.
I would define millionaire as at least $1MM in cash and equivalents, not the ability to borrow one million against your assets, or able to sell your assets for net $1 million. Or you just pull in a million/yr in income
Really hard to answer your question regarding what age someone should aim to achieve $1MM net worth.... Everyone has very different living standards. I would say a better milestone is what age do you target to have $1MM in cash and equivalents dedicated to retirement??

i think it will be skewed by people who think that owning their own computer and living in moms $450K house is a millionaireOriginally posted by Sugarphreak
Really Beyond is one of the few places you can actually have a poll like this.
Most of the vehicle specific forums I frequent would have a spaz if I posted something like this. However for Albertans this isn't as farfetched, and in a lot of cases is an attainable goal.
That said I am sure a couple of butt hurts will get on here and blast it at some point, haha
That said, I answered maybe by 40.... Had way too much fun instead!

I already am way older than 40, but I'm also "broke as fuck all the time, screw you assholes"
Maybe by 50 my net assets will be $1mill.
I could be doing a lot to make myself richer, but I'm really lazy and like my down time.

Yeah i think that will be the realistic one...Originally posted by Sugarphreak
I like how nobody is admiting to being "way older than 30" so far... lol
I left Alberta way too young and came back to B.C. I was making money there, but the lifestyle here is worth millions to me.
Money came in a big way the moment I stopped chasing it. But now it doesn't matter. Maybe that will wok for the aspiring millionaires on here?
Lol, I had the same aspirations when I was in my mid teens.
At 17 I pioneered my own car/home pro audio company, but fell flat on my ass since I had NO money to advertise, and nobody wants to buy a brand they've never heard of before, despite my stuff being worlds better then everything so much as NEAR that price point.
So when I was 23 I packed up everything to get into the oil patch, since I wanted to use that money to buy as much rental properties as I could afford, and use the passive income from those to give me the option if I ever wanted to work again. Long story short, I was basically forced out of the oil patch being a Type 1 diabetic, as Im too big of a "risk/liability" to the companies, to be out in the fields. That quite honestly crushed me, as I worked so hard to get into the oil patch in the first place.
Fast forward now, Im 31, and technically a multi-millionaire with the farm I have, but I have no plans on ever selling it until Im MUCH older, so
"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side"
Yeah I don't have a chance at this rate.
