Default Ever had your car hit by a golf ball?

I was driving yesterday afternoon along spruce dr sw and I hear a big bang on my roof. I went and checked my car and found a big dent next to the aerial on my new (1 month old) car. I went to the golf course and filed a claim and they said the city should be in touch. They advised to file a police report. I just spoke to the police and they said come back if the estimate is greater than 2k.

I have a kia forte 2014. Whats the likelihood the roof dent would cost more than 2k

It depends where you got hit, how hard you got hit etc. and every car is gonna be different but I don't think it would be $2k. Post a pic or you can always wait till tomorrow and take it to dent clinic/body shop and they will tell you exactly how much it would cost to repair it.

Just go into your Kia dealer and as for a quote to replace and paint a new roof. Tell them to be generous estimating labour

Send that to the cops. Once insurance gets involved they will argue that's not necessary but once the report is open you should be good.

I have never understood the 2k thing... Crime is a crime and vandalism is vandalism isn't it?

For me apparently the average time to get a repair part in for my car is 3 months so even a fender bender could easily top a $2k claim on rental cars etc. Especially when im younger than 25.

I'm pretty sure you can file a police report regardless of the damage. The $2K mark just makes it mandatory to file a police report, and body shops aren't allowed to work on a car with over $2K damage unless a police report has been filed and a damage sticker issued.

Yea the 2k thing is just for if an officer has to be dispatched to the scene right?

Me I am not willing to leave an accident up to my word versus his. Full police report with any collision.

When my GTI was in the shop i was rear-ended in a loaner (worth way more then my car) by a fucking cab right in front of the dealer. No damage visible or present but the cabbie was being shady and shouldn't show me his license for me to confirm who he was, he said if i didn't believe him to call the cops. 911 right away.

No way i was going to get stuck with a repair on that loaner

No, cops don't come out unless there's an injury, car immobile, or if the other party isn't co-operating in giving out details.

I haven't been in an accident in a while, but I always make the other party write up a statement of what happened with the at fault party admitting fault, and getting it signed.

Nowadays, you should be covered pretty good if you have a dashcam.

I thought in Alberta the car owner would have to prove the golfer was playing in a negligent way for the golfer to be liable. For example if it was just an errant drive they are not liable. This would be why houses on golf courses have extra insurance for these things.

Cops really push back on the $2K mark. They have outright refused to do the paperwork for me and my Mother In Law as their best guess was that it was less than $2K. It is such BS that they don't want to do the paperwork even at the station.

Rear window busted from a golf ball off McCall Lake.
Course isn't responsible and unless you can prove it was one of their employees they'll say, too bad.

Your only course is through your own insurance or just pony up the amount for PDR repair.

lasimmon: This is why I never get why it's a "luxury" to live on a golf course. Why do people want a constant flow of people walking past their back yard. No privacy, constantly worried being tagged by a ball while hanging out in your backyard and the insurance and hassle of having repairs done to your house.

The golf course wouldn't be liable either. Your insurance would pay for it. I heard those signs are put up just to try and convince people to not dick around and fire balls at houses, they don't actually hold any water.

I've never understood it either - to me living on/by a golf course is a huge detraction (and I like to golf).

Plus they could one day shut it down like they did in Shawnessy and build poor people houses for you to look at instead

It's not the golf balls that would upset me. It's the fucking carts ripping past at 7:00am on a Saturday.
