I'm looking at picking up a GoPro for my husband for Christmas and wondering what the best model is and recommendations on where the best place is to buy.

The Hero 4 Black is obviously the best one.. and was only just recently released so deals are not going to really be available, although there could be a chance during black friday but they are still selling the Hero 3+ so chances are that will be the one that get's big discounts coming up.

If you want cheaper just go snag a Hero 3+ Black for cheap as the Hero 4 is now out. You'll be able to find some good deals right now but also perhaps even better ones on Black Friday.
If he wants the quality of the Hero 4 I'd grab it. They really don't budge in price.. Look at the Hero 3, Hero 3+, and now Hero 4. They release more than Apple !!!
I got my 3 Black (reg) on Boxing Day last year right when the + (plus) editions came out so it was pretty cheap.. $189 IIRC (no accessories.)
Goooodluck!
Sometimes Best Buy and Futureshop have online sales on them. I have the HD4 Black edition and love it.
Actually the silver will be selling better this year. Or that is what is thought.
The reason, the silver has a full lcd screen on the back. Also the battery life is about 15% better even with the screen.
Also the black has all those high filming qualities, but they require large amounts of storage. 4k will be like 1gb size every minute of filming.
Thanks for the info.
I think I'll look into the Hero 3+ and see what kind of deals there are.
Going to mainly be used for biking and white water canoeing.
Any idea how well the waterproof cases work for these, are they decent?
3+ is alot better than the 3 esp if you use an iPhone to control it and view it.
The waterproof cases are 100% solid.

Things to keep in mind:
-If you're going to do a lot of 4k recording/editing, Hero4 Black would be your choice. Keep in mind, as already mentioned, you'll need a good memory card with a lot of space and a 4k TV to view your 4k videos.
-If you won't be doing 4k recording but still editing your videos, Hero4 Silver, Hero3+ Black, or 3+ Silver is more ideal. This would be the choice for most at the moment until 4k becomes even more mainstream.
-If you're pretty much just going to be using it to point and shoot, the Hero3 White or GoPro Hero might be the better choice.
This is more based off of frame rates and there would be other factors you could also consider such as low light recording, burst modes, timelapse, wifi.

Hmmmm The Hero4 black definitely sounds fantastic and the best quality, just not sure if I need that much, 4K is what I'm not sure of. Not sure my TV could even play that back.
It's going to mainly be used for video biking and paddling white water and the odd cruising in the car.
Now you've got me thinking...
The previous gen one on Black Friday will probably be the best bang for the buck.
99% of people do not need 4K these days for anything IMO.
Thanks for the advice!
Picked up the Hero4 Silver last week!!! Loving it so far...lots to learn.
