Default Internet / tablet restriction software for kids

My son always used my wifes iPad, but recently I got him a galaxy tab (all my stuff is samsung).

I am wondering what you parents are using as filter software.

    Any recommended apps or programs?

Oh heres a meerkat getting warm by the fire for those without kids.

Not much help overall, but I believe YouTube has a kids only app (or one coming soon). That would be a start.

The Youtube App is out already. It's basically Youtube selected feeds in a kid friendly app. The time restriction is useless, if the kid can read haha.

For tablets best is supervision straigth up. There really isn't any good ways of securing them.

Some routers have parental controls. my netgear r7000 can filter inappropriate sites, but it'll block it for everyone probably

Mine is old enough to know not to buy things or delete anything....but that also means he is old enough to know how to google search "boobies" and "sex".

What i need is a restricted browser....and a free one.

What do you want to restrict exactly?

My son (8years old) likes to watch minecraft vids etc when he's allowed to use the tablet on the weekend (ya I'm one of those parents that limits game/tv/tablet time).

I wanted to try and restrict youtube, google, etc so that if he is searching for something (parts for his airsoft AK-47 for example) he doesn't end up following link after link of ak-47 clips and end up watching ISIS take off some guys head with an AA gun.

I ended up just buying Net Nanny for it, kinda of a pain to setup but works really well. I've tried a bunch of things on it and you can still play games, still watch stuff on youtube and surf the web but it blocks everything I want it to.

I want to restrict just his tablet - regardless of where he is. He goes to his cousins house and they play minecraft all together on their tablets. If he tries to look for boobies it sends me an email.

At the end of the day, part of the growth of kids is testing the limits and finding out how to get around rules. I applaud sillysod for taking the steps necessary to limit exposure to things that might impede proper/good psychological development. At the same time...

I learned a LOT about computers/internet in my quest for porn as a 13 year old on dialup "back in the day"

Same with me. Much of what i know today is based on looking for boobs on some BBS.

But i can't make it too easy! If he circumvents it, he deserves to reap the fruits of his labor.

When I was young I found the same stuff too, my parents really didn't know what i was up to but it took 6 minutes to load a photo....

It was essentially the digital version of a photo album, once in a while you could download a 2"x2" video clip of something hardly visible.

Now any kid can see absolutely anything online. I don't want my 8 year old watching Luka Magnotta dismember and fuck something. Some boobies here and there are going to happen - there isn't much I can do about that, but I know when you are young it's hard to not click on the flashing "SEE BONNIE ROTTEN BLOWS A HORSE"

Benyl I looked at a coupe of those but the Net Nanny seemed to be better.

You think you are impedeing "proper" or "good" psychological development by restricting a kids access?

Come on man , there is a huge difference between the playboy pamela anderson / jenny mccarthy pictures we would look up on dial up and vs a video like Cody Lane Blue Room . Pretty sure we just wanted to see tits when we were younger - what kids can see now can be damaging for their relationship/intimacy development and their expectations of what is "normal"
