I've wanted one since they came out. Unfortunately it's not road legal in Canada.
I've driven the Atom, and with the pebbles and crap on our roads you would dress up like you would riding a motorbike to drive it.

Any reason they are not street legal in Canada?
Because its CANADA
id consider it strictly a track toy.
I'd drive one everyday in the warmer months if I had one. They don't seem that hard core.
I bet it drives like a go cart!

Anything in Canada is considered a car if it has 4 wheels. Which means it needs bumpers and side impact beams, airbags and all that jazz.Originally posted by Sugarphreak

However, if you buy it in pieces and assemble it as a kit car like the Ariel Atom.......
Life is too short to drive boring cars.

Whoa whoa whoa... easy now, you might ruffle some feathers making comparisons like that!
I got the chance to drive a T-rex while I was in LA.
That thing was a lot of fun, I would imagine the X-bow would be even more enjoyable.
I think you are better off buying an elise or exige as a track toy here tbh..

When they launched the x-bow, they said they would be releasing it with optional DSG transmission. That never happened, and the aftermarket guys that mate it to the DSG have had nothing but problems. You can count the # of working DSG X-Bows on one hand. With missing fingers lol. With the DSG, I think it would be a really solid "motorcycle on 4 wheels" daily drivable track car that gives you a bit of F1 driver experience at the track.
Personally, I wouldn't even bother trying to build my own here until a DSG version is available.

Too damn heavy. I've driven a shifter cart a few times and havent found anything comparable 100%.Originally posted by killramos

Why not? In my opinion, for a "purist" car like the X-Bow, rowing through the gears the old fashioned way is the way to go. Hell, I'd rather adapt a sequential dog-box to it than a DSG.Originally posted by rage2

Just my personal preference. You can already legalize an Ariel Atom in Canada, which is a better car than the X-Bow for less money, if a manual transmission is what you're after.
The X-Bow's use of the VAG 2.0L Turbo motor makes mating to a DSG transmission a no-brainer.

So does it sound like a GTI? I loved the sound of mine regardless of how phony it was ( since i own an active sound car clearly i don't care about these things).Originally posted by rage2

One of the best sounding 2.0's on the market though i haven't heard a CLA in person.
It sounds like the GTI in videos. I too like the GTI with a proper exhaust sound (especially with DSG on downshifts), but every X-Bow review I've read complained that the car sounds quiet and boring. Probably because you can't hear it over the wind noise.Originally posted by killramos

The Ariel Atom sounds great, even with the old GM (?) motors.

The atom is cool but Calgary is a pretty shitty place to own a dedicated track toy...Originally posted by rage2

I think i might buy another GTI as a winter car when i move past my year round DD stage (aka get a new house that holds more than 1 car in the garage).
