The kickr headwind fan was 275 CAD at ridleys. But the product listing seems to have been removed.
For PC / Mac setup, I think you will need a USB / Ant+ dongle.

Laptop does have Bluetooth, would that work?
Most of these need the ANT+ dongle to work well.
That headwind trainer seems interesting but kinda gimmicky. I have a Neo now that I need to setup...my pants are getting slightly tighter than I remember haha

The sweet thing about the fan though is that it can increase the flow based on heart rate, this is especially nice when getting on the bike early in the morning. I find it beneficial because typically when i start out i'm a little chilled to have the fan on full blast but as I warm up with my heart rate it increases. Prior to the headwind i'd have to stop mid warm up to go turn the fan on, now it just works.
At $150, I'd be fine with it. Regular $400 is insanity!

I’d have it set to speed... cooling is for winners
Fortunately they make fans with remotes for those on a budgetThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I warm up with fan off, then turn it to low until I get too warm, then set it to full blast.
So “pre-black Friday” sale has the 2018 kickr refurb on for $700usd, don’t think there is any changes? Still works with headwind and climb... do I buy or do I wait for the actual Black Friday sale... Hrm
Also thinking I will just get the trainer now then use up the wellness spending account and in the new year use up the fresh balance of it on some toys for it
My setup is similar. I have a fan on max plugged into a smart outlet. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Once I am warmed up I have to ask Alexa to turn on fan. It is ghetto but very cheap. I think 2 fans are $25 and the smart plug was $10.
I would spend good money on a trainer as it makes a bigger difference than one would think. I got a Stac Zero for $650 and truthfully it kind of sucks.
In what ways? With 4iiii taking over and releasing an updated version of that trainer, I was tempted to give it a try. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Well, turns out I should have just ordered it earlier. Same deal today but their site was down almost all day. Finally got confirmation though! Kickr will be on it a way and should be under $1100cad all said and done.
It rides really poorly to be honest. I have the old version with the wheel weights so it isn't a direct comparison. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
It just doesn't spin up and down very nicely. It is also quite difficult to find a good wheelset/axle system that works with it. Ended up spending another $200 just to get the trainer working. My friend ended up with a Direto and it rides far nicer for about the same money when you consider the extra wheelset. It is a lot of work to get started.
My first trainer came out the box broken so I actually went and met them in Cochrane. Very nice and knowledgeable bunch, but truthfully I couldn't recommend it unless it was 3-400.
Finally showed up! Need to bring a fan down, didn’t help that the house was heating up to “home” temp either
You gonna need a floor mat unless you hate your carpet.
Yeah I have some industrial carpet squares in the garage I’m going to bring inThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Much better! Need to adjust the fan though... doesn’t get the face. Maybe I’ll grab a second fan from the garage
Also hooked up a HR monitor for the first time... that’s a fun stat to watch haha
So realistic... drop my chain on the 1x11 just like real life
But yeah, rode pretty close to the same distance as my regular commute, but like an extra 100m of gain... feels right and metrics are more or less inline for my effort
Couple tips, you're going to want a mat that covers all that carpet under the bike, most of the sweat drips are going to be right between your mats especially with a fan blowing it back to the left. If you run your chain kinda mid to top of the cassette the Kickr is a LOT quieter there.
I used two of those fans for my setup and had them tilted back to get the upper torso.
Also, what bar is that you are using? Looks cool, like a broomstick.
Hrm... guess I could grab more mats from the garage haha... I was thinking a towel over the bars as most of the sweat seems to be from the face!
Bars are just some brand x mountain bike bars from chain reaction with some brooks bar wrap
you guys are leaking that much?
My sweat problem is to the point that I get looks of disgust from other gym-goers at MRU when they notice the puddle on the floor. So yeah - I leak that much
