Default HELP: How to wipe iPhone 4S WITHOUT the "restrictions" passcode

Hello, I'm selling an iPhone 4s, and I even have a buyer lined up. I would like to restore it to factory default and remove all content. However, when the phone was new, it appears it was set up with a "restrictions passcode" which I do not have access to. I don't think most personal users would create one of these, so it seems like this is an uncommon problem.

This phone is outside of it's apple support period, so i don't think I can get any assistance from the genius bar or online chat with apple support. I have looked online, and not found anything.

To be clear, the method of settings/general/reset is what I'm trying, but after I enter my lock passcode, it requests a separate "restrictions" passcode.

I had read that entering the passcode incorrectly 10 times would wipe it, but that hasn't worked either.

I can manually remove most of my data, but it would be nice to do a clean wipe before I sell it to some dirtbag from Kijiji.

    Anyone know a method?

3: Tap Enable Restrictions and enter a passcode. You can use the passcode to change your settings or turn off Restrictions.
Important: If you lose or forget your Restrictions passcode, you'll need to perform a factory restore to remove it.

    factory restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

    try that out?
basically reloading OS from scratch and skipping the factory reset thing in options

EK69, I don't have any computer with itunes on it. My hone computer is linux, which you can't install itunes on. I may attempt to install it on my work laptop, although I'm guessing I don't have admin privileges on that.

You can remote wipe the phone by logging into icloud on your desktop. This is assuming you have find my phone enabled. Once that's done you have start the setup process and turn off find my iPhone before selling the phone or the new owner won't be able to activate it.

I'm attempting the method Rage has suggested. It appears I need to upgrade the phone to IOS 8 for this to work. I'd better be careful , as my new iphone is on the same icloud account, and I don't want to reset that one . . .

    Wish me luck.

Each phone is a unique setup in icloud. Unless of course your new phone was restored from your old phones backup in which case it gets a little messy. You wouldn't want to use the old backup anyways as your restrictions password will be there in the backup resulting in the same problem in the future on your new phone.

Thanks so much Rage. That worked perfectly once I updated the software to iOS8. The phone is now wiped clean and ready for the degenerates of Kijiji to have their way with it.
