Thumbs down Statistics Canada - Labour Force Survey (LFS)

    Hey all,

I have recently received a letter from Statistics Canada to call in for this Canada Labour Force Survey. The letter also claims that it is mandatory and it says that it is the law. I dont know if I believe that.... My question is: What if I decided not to call in for this crap? What kind of punishment would occur?

My boss refused to do a household survey, he ended up with a warrant and spent a weekend in jail, I think the courts made him pay a large fine, not sure how much though.

Did you have to sign for that envelope (or pick it up from the post office)? Who's to say that you never received that particular item in the mail?

I would not accept any of those veiled threats. However, after a quick search it turns out that they harass the hell out of you until you comply. The best course of action (in my opinion) is to call in and complete the survey at your own convenience as quickly as possible using bogus information. Or if you get an actual person on the phone, complete the survey at a snails pace and constantly ask for the question again.

Basically, troll them to the extent that you feel is equal to their veiled threats.

I thought these surveys have no personal information on them? They are just base on general geographic info.

I was annoyed by the length of the survey so i decided "fuck it" and yes, they then harass the hell out of my phone hahaha! finally i receive paper mail stating that it manadorty, etc. etc. ...Troll FTW

They do ask personal questions about people in your household who are working, age, what industry they work in... Apparently it is confidential though.

Well yes but they are not supposed to attach that data to a name.

This is how economist get their data every month to predict and trend the market.

Sadly these veiled threats are at the root of our entire society. Without veiled threats our government would not exist, so it shouldn't be surprising to see government use a tactic that historically has worked perfectly for them.

When you have the power to use threats of force and back them up, why not flaunt it?

So they can cost the gov as much money as possible to do their job, and save themselves time (so they have more time to complain about the gov wasting tax money).

It seems like they're putting in more effort into avoiding the survey then the effort it would take to fill it out.

I think it's more the principle of the issue, and avoiding doing something which is commanded by the threat of force.

I understand the reason why someone might sacrifice some of their time in order to uphold their integrity in the face of a threat.
It's also false to say that someone cannot complain about bad policy because they are at the moment protesting a threat.

The judicial system is not based on the threat of force but it would not exist as it is today without using threats of force to pay for it.

Also, I think you may want to look up what anarchism actually means.
