My wife splained the Baltimore thing to me last night... Aparrently the cops have habit of arresting blacks, and putting them handcuffed but not seatbelted in the back of their vans, and taking them for a rough ride.... And the practice finally killed some dude.

I guess it's really nor surprising in the USA. I don't expect too much from the police in this militarized society.

Really, could one blame the blacks for declaring war on the cops?

Perhaps they should raise their grievances obediantly in a court of law, like good little niglets?

    You mean like this?

Over $10m spent by the City of Baltimore in the last 4 years paid out in damages and legal fees to plaintiffs in cases involving police using excessive and brutal force.

It's been a busy week, and I spent bit of time "catching up" on Baltimore this morning. A couple of items really caught my eye:

...On other occasions, rival gang members helped each other to protect black-owned businesses, black children, and reporters, diverting rioters to Chinese- and Arab-owned businesses instead ....
When asked about the postponement of the Baltimore Orioles game, the Orioles' chief operating officer, John P. Angelos, said:

"My greater source of personal concern, outrage and sympathy ... is focused neither upon one night's property damage nor upon the acts, but is focused rather upon the past four-decade period during which an American political elite have shipped middle class and working class jobs away from Baltimore and cities and towns around the U.S. to third-world dictatorships ... plunged tens of millions of good hard working Americans into economic devastation and then followed that action around the nation by diminishing every American’s civil rights protections in order to control an unfairly impoverished population living under an ever-declining standard of living and suffering at the butt end of an ever-more militarized and aggressive surveillance state. The innocent working families of all backgrounds whose lives and dreams have been cut short by excessive violence, surveillance, and other abuses of the Bill of Rights by government pay the true price, an ultimate price, and one that far exceeds the importance of any kids' game played tonight, or ever...."

BALTIMORE - Baltimore's top prosecutor announced criminal charges Friday against all six officers suspended after a man suffered a fatal spinal injury in police custody, saying "no one is above the law." "Mr. Gray's death was a homicide," State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby declared. His arrest was illegal and his treatment in custody amounted to murder and manslaughter, she said.

    ^ Good to see.

The trial should bring a lot of evidence forward.

I've been hearing some things about Mr. Gray's pre-existing condition. Specifically a number spinal surgeries before his arrest, we'll see if there's any truth to that.

seriously, anyone that you see out there rioting does not give 2 shits about the kid. They are using it as a rallying cry to get like minded people together to cause mayhem, and justify criminal behavior and get away with it by blending into the crowd.

"Fuk da po-lice" is a perfect representation of their mindset.

Peaceful demonstrators have at least a head on their shoulders.

Personally, I say anyone involved in a violent protest needs to be met with greater force to show that it is not acceptable. People can protest peacefully all they want, and I encourage that. I encourage a couple warnings before the police break out the guns to disperse violent crowds.

You can't paint all movements with the same brush w.r.t. violence. Some of the most important human rights movements and/or regime changes would not have been possible without extreme violence, likewise some of the most important human rights movements and/or regime changes would not have been possible without peaceful protesting.

You can't really definitively say which kind would be most effective because they are all different; different powers at the helm, different nature of uprising, different nature of demands, different cultural contexts, etc.
