    Default bill of sale question

I am buying a car, but the seller just recently purchased the vehicle from the original owner and never registered it under his name. Reason being is he couldn't afford to pay his enormous amount of pending tickets to register the car, so rather sell it for now. If i buy this car obviously his name will be under the seller, can i register this car without any problem? All I will have is the bill of sale with his name under the seller but not the original owner. thank you.

make sure you record his drivers license number and make sure the info matches the seller in case the car is stolen, or run a carproof or whatever. A lien check is probably also appropriate if it is a newer car.

yeah, it's not an issue, just ensure everything is legit, get as much info on him as you can... the registry doesn't even look at the previous owner. I've bought a car before, parked it for a couple months and lost the bill of sale, so i just got a friend to sign the bill of sale saying he sold it to me, no issues, as long as it doesn't get reported stolen.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

Pretty much this. The registries are so lax in Alberta it's crazy.

But you need to cover your ass and make sure the car isn't stolen or has any liens on it.
