Question Where to buy large block of wood?

This seems kinda silly, but I have searched and called around a bit without any luck. Hopefully somebody can help point me in the right direction?

I am looking for a solid large rectangular block of wood; something around 12x12x24 give or take. Maybe even a chunk of a reclaimed beam or something would work well. Unfortunately I don't have a band saw so can't really use a large log as a starting point.

    Any ideas? Appreciate any help!

Googling "raw wood calgary" didn't help?

There is a huge wood yard in Black Diamond that sells large tree sections. They'd definitely have something along those lines, alas I forget what it's called though. Sorry it's on the east end of town on the road that connects you to the south end of Okotoks. Perhaps someone else can chime in as to its name or number.

Windsor Plywood either carries it or can source it for you. I go to the one in the SE by the Calgary Humane Society and they have a pretty impressive selection of wood including exotic rough cuts.

    It did not, surprisingly.
Kind of an awkward size I guess.

Thanks, I will try finding them with google maps!

Thanks! They didn't have anything in stock but they said they'll try to find out if they could potentially source something.

Thanks for the suggestion! Seems like they are more of a building materials supplier unfortunately.

Does it have to be a solid piece or can you glue laminate a bunch of 2x12 pieces together?

We buy our slabs from Bacon veneer in the NE, Google them and see what they have.

Thanks guys. Ended up having to laminate what I needed. Couldn't find anyone to source a block that large and the ball-park price quotes I was given were pretty high.

    Thanks for everyone's suggestions though

Just for future reference if this gets searched (assuming people use the search feature) I found this place on my motorcycle ride the other day. They had a lot of large pieces of wood in their yard.
