Default What can you tell me about g35 sedan 6mt's

My acura el is reaching the obvious end of its life, and the suspension makes my girlfriend and dog carsick. I'm considering getting something a bit more reliable. While not everyone's favourite, I need the extra room in the back, and am looking japanese due to reliability, and don't want to buy a used german sedan (please no "but 3 series/audi") posts.

I like the is300 but those are getting long in the tooth, so I thought why not look into a 6mt g35 sedan. Aside from being rare as hens teeth I alberta from what I can find, they don't seem to be terribly priced for a 260+ hp "sports" sedan. What is the consensus on them? How is reliability besides fuel door, trunk lid, and CD player issues? Avoid anything over a certain mileage? Cost of repairs?

From my understanding, the G series arent the best DD - esp in winter in Calgary. One reads about too many issues with them.

Is the is300 a better buy even with the higher mileage almost guaranteed?

I find the transmission was never rewarding enough. I'd personally track down a e46 or e90 330. Still plenty of power and maintenance shouldn't be bad on good condition cars, just don't take it to the stealer.

I was very close to buying an is300 - all it needed was a t belt. Very good cars.

    I’ve got a ‘07 G35S (looks like a g37) 6MT. I really like it.

I did a fair amount of research on these, and the only thing I found is you’ll want to stay away from 05-06 g35 sedans. They have the VQ35 Rev-Up in them, which had oil consumption issues (google it, lots of info out there). If have the money, get an 07-08 sedan like mine, it’s a completely different car. Interior is infinitely better, and the engine is reliable (VQ35HR). I have blizzaks for the winter, and when it’s really bad I put some weight in the trunk. Obviously it’s no civic, but it works great for winter IMO; I’ve never been stuck.

One of the worst manual transmissions I have ever driven, almost as bad as some American cars. I remember the shifter vibrating like hell as well. Infiniti sold incredibly few 6MT sedans. The sales staff told me the ratio once and I can't remember exactly but it was something ridiculous and they were mostly (if not all) special order. The automatic in the G35S is actually decent, and has rev-matched downshifts. If you can find a G35xS that is a very high bang for the buck car on the used market IMHO. You get paddles if you get the "S".

Man those motors are getting OLD though, like over 10 years minus incremental updates. Nissan/Infiniti needs a modern 3.0 TT so bad.

Don't buy a 05-06, the interior do not wear very well, thin as fuck paint.

    07-08+ are much, much nicer.

Why not go for a 6-speed TL?

Honestly this is probably the best answer, as long as you’re ok driving a FWD boat. I had a 3.2cl type s 6mt and it was awesome, aside from the fact it was floaty, big, and FWD. Engine was great, transmission fantastic. Just too big and boring for me.

Despite the shifter vibrating (doesn’t bother me), my only gripe about my g35s is the drive by wire throttle, I’m not the biggest fan.

I had a G35 X. Only on a two years lease. Fun to drive, but not very well built imo. The interior seems incredibly cheap to me. Mine did not hold up well, leather, plastics, etc all looked old way too soon.
