Who would be that upset about theirs to sell it at $10k less?Originally posted by benyl
Some guy on CBC said resale on VW TDI cars have dropped $10K overnight. Not sure I believe that.
Non-flashed TDIs will be a collectors item now that they will be faster than the ones that have been "fixed".

Does it matter? Even if it gets recalled, a tuned TDI will bypass all that crap anyways and be the fastest lol.

WTF, its not a hybrid. Wanting better mileage =/ wanting to be green. Many people wouldnt give a flying fuck about what comes out of the exhaust pipe.Originally posted by killramos
Wanting a car that's good on gas is the same thing as being green, whether they are eco-nazis is a different matter.
I am sure that all of your idiot customers, who you sold them a car that costs 5 grand more to save 30 bucks a month on gas, are out bragging to all of their buddies about how much better their TDI is than a common gasser.
Even all of VW's promotional material on TDI's focuses on them being better for the environment.
Buying a diesel has nothing to do with being 'green'. Riding a bike or taking the bus are 'green'.
Buying a TDI are bragging rights for "Calgary to Vancouver in a single tank" or something like that.

Pfffft, my F150 can make it from cowtown to Van-city on one tank. That's not really that impressive.Originally posted by flipstah

I wonder how many other auto-manufactures are guilty of cheating EPA's "super difficult" emissions tests?
Can someone explain what is the basis for a class action lawsuit in this scandal? I fail to see how the car owner is affected.
What I mean is the average TDI buyer got the performance and fuel economy they were paying for. Right. So, what's the problem (for them)? so what if emissions were off spec. Does the average consumer even care? Are they aware of what NOx is and what the numbers are supposed to be?
In terms of a lawsuit:
- mental anguish? ("OMG I've been polluting all this time") yeah right.
- perceived loss in future resale value?
- health effects from running higher NOx emissions? (Would be difficult to prove a direct link especially if car owner has no current health issues)
- cost to implement repairs to "fix" it? No, this should be covered by the manufacturer.
... Etc.
So what is it? If the car owners themselves are actually entitled to some cash, what the hell is it for?

It passed all government regulations for emissions
It retains the power and fuel economy experienced when test driving the vehicle
It has a higher resale value when compared to the equivalent gas model
Now that this scandal has come to light, VW will have to recall the cars so that they meet NOx emissions requirements.
This results in:
Loss of power and fuel economy
Inconvenience to the owner to perform said recall
Possibility of higher maintenance costs for emissions equipment
OMG WTF media fallout reducing the resale value of the vehicle
What if I told you that I required you to bring in your newer vehicle so I can reduce the power and fuel economy by 5-10%, you may have more costly emissions failures in the near future and that your vehicle will now be worth less when you try to sell it. Are you going to be happy?
I am curious to see what this VW ordeal will do to the sectors....
well
this morning
"Over in Europe, the emissions scandal deepened overnight as we learned via a German media report that BMW's X3 Xdrive 20d exceeds regulatory standards by 11 times. The company denied the report, and its stock fell by as much as 8%."

if the market isnt already to rolled over already, these sectors will be the hardest hit if the stock market run is over and we see a collapse in the next couple of months
