What a piece of shit.
So glad they caught this guy.
but why was a 16 year old laying in the middle of the street... on a school night?
the 16 year old died on scene. RIP
and similar to the other hit and run a while back, had the driver stayed on scene, he would likely not be charged. That's just screwed up.
I think they should reduce the speed limit to 30km/h on the Trans Canada to prevent future 16 year old girls laying on the street at 3am from dying when they get hit by a car.
For the record, this is the first pedestrian fatality this year in the armageddon they call the streets of Calgary.

I'm thinking teenage druggy (or prostitute)? Perhaps OD'd in someone's house, so they dragged her onto the road so a driver would stop and help her, instead of getting in trouble themselves.Originally posted by ercchry

See, complete irrefutable proof that all these awesome laws they brought in (like school zone time changes) are working!Originally posted by rage2

I've never run over anything and hope to God I never do but if the girl was short and skinny and lying prone on the road, is it possible to not realize it? The news says the taxi was a Prius so I dunno, maybe if he was driving at a high rate of speed he wouldn't even know? or maybe he thought it was a pothole if he even felt anything? I'm just saying this is different from smacking someone head on where I'd imagine blood would splatter everywhere...plus it's at night and and what if she was dressed all in dark clothing? keep in mind he's 70 so he might not see something dark on the road, it just doesnt make sense to me why he would not stop if he knew...anyways, sad story, this is why you shouldn't get fucked up to a point you don't realize you've passed out on a major road...RIP
In a lifted truck, I could buy that, but in a Prius with ground clearance of 5.5cm? He wouldn't have just "drove over her", she would have been struck, and pushed out of the way.Originally posted by Canucks3322

I hit a beaver once. There was no mistaking it for a pot hole.
Honestly, I was driving into the city at 3am to meet up with friends and almost ran over some chick or a dude with long hair. They were passed out on the 1A (close to Calgary, but no street lights).
Basically, I saw the hair and shoe but no chance to swerve. Didn't really process what it was until I had passed it by 500m.
Turned around, drove by again (slower, lol) to see if I could see them. Looks like my tire buzzing woke them up and they had gotten up and were moving into the ditch. Called the RC to go take care of it. It was Stampede week.
That being said, in the city, no doubt I would have been able to see someone lying in the gutter on the road and to not stop. You know when you've run over something. Damn Cabbies.
At the time, police were also investigating the discovery of an unconscious male near the scene. On Thursday, police confirmed the man was a relative of the victim.
He told police he has no recollection of what happened, and doesn’t know why the young girl would have been lying in the road.

So is this right? She was laying in the middle of the street sleeping?
Sleeping, playing chicken, savasana, committing suicide, we really don't know at this point. But yeah, sounds like she was laying prone on the road.Originally posted by BensonTT

On the bright side, it'll be a pretty short sentence.“The evidence that we were able to obtain after that point… that convinced us that the cab driver absolutely knew that he had hit somebody.”

unless they have audio of the cabbie yelling "oh shit! was that a person?!" then i think it would more than likely only be evidence of hitting someTHING... but time will tell i guess, im sure the media will update us when this is all doneOriginally posted by rage2

Not doing any wrong by lying in the middle of the road at 3am?Police say the girl was lying in the middle of the road in the 500 block of 16th Avenue N.E. when the taxi fatally struck her. The taxi then took off, said Acting Insp. Paul Stacey with the Calgary Police Service Traffic section.
“She’s a young, 16 year-old-girl, she wasn’t doing anything wrong,” Stacey said. “She was run over and she was left there to die. It’s as simple as that.”
