    I figure it's not a lot of people - 40 tops.
Expected. project side changes and IT outsourcing casualties probably.

Ops should have zero impact as everyone still need that lights on. But it doesn't mean management won't take advantage of the downturn to reduce some cost.

I think they did similar things at Fortis as well.
This was more or less fairly accurate, all the names i saw were people who were not essential to the operation of the department even my department they let go 1/3 of the managers even the in house IT department was let go.

Refrigeration in general is a career that many people don't know exists, how many times have you been referred to as a plumber or electrician? The job boards at the wholesalers are full with postings, however I can say I would prefer my kids do something else..
I do love me some NH3 though, the smell of money...

Security related work. In fact, it can be busier during a recession.

I say cock sucking industry (rage2, Kenny, mods am I allow to say that... Don't want ppl complaining they offended).

Like when economy is good, people pay good money to get serviced. But when their industry hits the fan, now they go out offering others their services. So the cycle never stops. That's just imho

Always good business, even more so now when you hear all the crazy increase in prop taxes for commercial property.

The sky still hasn't fallen in Calgary yet so I'm going to go ahead and say this city is reasonably recession proof nowadays...

Actually... Lots of dentists' offices around town are laying off staff because of reduced demand.

I was thinking...All the people who are laid off, mostly don't have benefits, so they aren't going to be going to get their teeth cleaned and pay 700~ out of their own pocket. I had my semi annual dentist appt back in March when I was laid off and cancelled it because I didn't have benefits.
