You didn't think Nintendo would be happy with just reviving Pokemon, did you?

Following a week in which it reignited interest in one of its classic games franchises with Pokemon Go, the video game company announced Thursday it's releasing a new, compact version of its classic Nintendo Entertainment System.

The new device, called the NES Classic Edition, is a shrunken replica of the console that launched in North America in 1985, which over its lifetime sold more than 61 million units worldwide. It will come pre-loaded with 30 games and one controller.

You won't have to dig out an old tube TV either, as it will be able to connect to modern displays with an included HDMI cable. In another modern twist, each game will have "multiple suspend points," allowing players to take a break and return to the point where they left off without entering passwords.

The NES Classic Edition will be available in stores Nov. 11 for $79.99. Gamers can buy a second controller for $12.99.

"We wanted to give fans of all ages the opportunity to revisit Nintendo's original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place," Pierre-Paul Trepanier, Nintendo of Canada's general manager and senior director, said in a release.

Games include Super Mario, Zelda, Castlevania

The games in the NES Classic Edition include an impressive range of Nintendo-made and third-party titles. Here's the full list:

    Balloon Fight
    Bubble Bobble
    Castlevania
    Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
    Donkey Kong
    Donkey Kong Jr.
    Double Dragon II: The Revenge
    Dr. Mario
    Excitebike
    Final Fantasy
    Galaga
    Ghosts 'n Goblins
    Gradius
    Ice Climber
    Kid Icarus
    Kirby's Adventure
    Mario Bros.
    Mega Man 2
    Metroid
    Ninja Gaiden
    Pac-Man
    Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
    StarTropics
    Super C
    Super Mario Bros.
    Super Mario Bros. 2
    Super Mario Bros. 3
    Tecmo Bowl
    The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

I'd bet 8 bit if it's the retro kickback.

No dragon warrior has me bummed but I'll probably buy one lol.

Under $100 for this setup with two controllers? Almost seems impossible not to bite at that price. Nothing like a little cost effective nostalgia

Eh, my original still works and I have many of those games. I assume they left duck hunt out because of the controller and still can't figure out how to make it work on modern screens..

I believe they stated that there is no expandable memory or way to add new games

Actually, at some time in the future, ALL NES games will be completely unplayable.

The reason? They are ROM cartridges, and as such, require constant power. The cartridges actually have a small battery in them, and once that battery dies, POOF, the code is gone.

Looks like the only volatile memory is for the savegames, and replacing the battery is a fairly simple affair?
