Edit: Internet cut out past midnight. Spend 45 mins with tech support this morning to get it back up. They upgraded the node a 3 years ago and do not see saturation right now. Speeds still suck. Back to Telus I guess.
They did some maintenance last night, it only "lasted" a small time, but I had a customer down until I called Shaw and got them to restart the cable modem.

By the way, there's a chance the noise issue isn't on the node, but something on your street, or in your house, it could also be too strong of a signal. Just wait for the tech to come out, you'll be happy with the results afterwards, they just need to diagnose the connection.

How often can you actually saturate your 250? Most download or streaming sources won't go that high unless they are p2p style?

I've done it twice. First time was a test, where I had 4 Apple TV's in the house playing/caching 4 different HD movies, and my laptop downloading large files from 4 different sources.

The second time was organic, last November, lots of video game releases, so with 2 XB1's both were downloading and updating. Apple TV's in the house were also busy at the time.

But yea, the sources typically set speed limits per connection. iTunes movies download and cache at 60mbps, Xbox one games download at 50mbps, PS4 at 25mbps. Definitely need multiple streams to hit even 150mbps.

Damn, downloading xbox games faster was pretty well the only thing i was looking forward to

If i pick up a 4kTV this fall i suppose some 4k netflix wouldn't hurt the bandwidth.

All the more evidence that i wont "get used to" 150 and be devastated switching back in a few years. Its just me and my wife at home. Only so much streaming we can do and we hardly saturated the 50.

yeah, i know, but some people had posted about having difficulty getting this price.

I dont mind, $20+ discount from my shaw 100 for better speeds and double the cap... just for signing up for something i use anyway... no brainer.

How old is your house? Noise can be issues with the end connections of the cables, degraded line to the shaw service, shit spliter used in your house.

    This.

My install was Yesterday and every device in my house was red on his app. He changed out the coax cables from the wall to the router and the main inlet to my smart centre (I rolled my eyes because seriously......cables?) and it all jumped to Orange. He then changed the -7 splitters to -3 and everything went green.

I never would have thought that a cable and splitter would have made that much of a difference but meh i was wrong.

I think the tolerance is less when the speed goes up.

Your internet connection should off the 1st split and have a good spliter for your 1st split.

this is why my modem is in the wiring closet right where the cable enters my house off a shaw supplied 2 way splitter using the provided cable to the modem, then from the other side of the 2 way goes to a couple more 3 ways to go to the rest of the house, although all of that is irellivent now since i dont use cable tv/phone, so now i just run straight pipe to the modem, then run cat5e from there if the router is to be located elsewhere.

3 years old. Currently have the modem connected directly to the cable coming from outside in the utility room and Ethernet up to the computer.

    Thanks for the tip

I have Telus 50 right now and they offered $50/mo for 1 year to stay with them, but weren't able to offer 100 in my area (Inglewood). Booked an appointment with Shaw for the end of this week.

You are getting ripped off man. Regardless of if they can offer you 100, they offered me 100 for the same price ($50). I would expect to get 50 for $25.

    Don't even need multiple streams.

Downloading a game from Steam right now at 22.4MB/s (179Mbps).

Newsgroups can very easily max out 150-180 Mbps as well, it would be easy to use twice that if it were available.

I was offered $40/month to keep Telus 50 with unlimited bandwidth. 100/150 isn't available in my area either despite being on fiber.
