Also, even if the police are entitled to "do something about it", there is a whole spectrum of responses available to them depending on the individual circumstances, ranging from asking people to leave at one end to shooting them and carting out the corpses on the other end. At the end of the day, there is no grey area. They were trespassing. As soon as you break the law, the police have the right to do something about it. That is law. That is the way society maintains order.
Also, we have a pretty good idea how it played out, the same way 99% of situations play out. The police did their jobs according to the laws and rules that they are bound by.
