Default Legalities of an electric (kick style) scooter..

Wondering if anybody has any experience with these, i backed the Eon scooter on Indiegogo for my 14y/o son so he could have a quick, reliable and easy form of transport because he wants to get a weekend/evening/summer job and i don't want to be carting him around. (he actually paid for most of it)

(this is a prototype design and the production model will have functioning head and tail lights which should comply with the regulations outlined in the OHV rules)

Anyway, there have been some recent amendments to the off-highway vehicle regulations, just wondering if anybody knows if something like this would fall under the OHV registration so he could legally drive it on the road?

I don't think your really going to find any laws regarding what you can and can't do. Personally it would be a ride at your own risk and hope to not get caught?

Also from my understanding that a OHV maybe registered and plated but doesn't mean it can ride on public roads.

in the PDF i linked ofor OHV it does not say you cant drive it on the road, actually it specifically states some situations where it cant be driven on the road but thats it.

    Prohibition
2(1) A person who is less than 14 years old shall not drive an
    off-highway vehicle on a highway.
    (2) a person who is less than 14 years old shall not drive an
off-highway vehicle on public property unless
    (a) the person is supervised by a person who is occupying the
passenger seat on the off-highway vehicle or is in or on a
vehicle that is travelling in close proximity to the
    off-highway vehicle, and
    (b) the person supervising is 18 years old or older.
    (3) No person shall permit a person who is less than 14 years old
to drive an off-highway vehicle in a public place except in
    accordance with subsection (2).
the whole thing is about as clear as mud, that's why i am trying to see if anybody has any experience on specifically this situation.
If it was me, i'd be with you on the just don't get caught thing, but i'm not going to put my son in that situation if it can be avoided.

I think the kids on these and the hoverboards get harrased around here by RCMP.

But the ebike scooters are accepted without license/insurance for those under <500w and <32kmh rules.

I think they're grey area - which makes them a pain in the ass.

Yeah that was the document i was going by as well, this one is 1500w but can be limited through the control panel/app to do 30km which was my plan anyway.
But then i realized that document was from 2009, and saw the OHV amendments from just this year, which was probably mostly amended for the use of helmets, but still got me wondering about classifying the scooter as an OHV
