I’m just curious if the import duty line on the checkout page has always been zero and the 13% duty is implied. The statement there seem to indicate that the estimated import duty will be shown on the checkout page and will be collected by UPS along with the GST/PST/HST and fees.
I think there’s a bit of “lost in translation here”. It should read something like “at checkout you pay the net price to canyon, but will be informed *later* about the estimated import duty.”

I can see how it could easily be interpreted either way…come to think of it I remember being confused at bike purchase but figured I would prepare to pay the fees anyways just in case.

I actually just ordered parts from canyon 2 wks ago and the process was the same. UPS bill followed…

The import duties wasn't listed at all in the receipt or checkout screen when I ordered (2021), but it did say it would be 13% payable to UPS just like in the screenshots above

What is new, or at least I don't remember seeing it is the line that says "Most bikes imported into Canada are free of import duty charges".

I find that a bit strange, aren't MOST bikes that imported subject to the import duty since they come from countries that aren't exempt?

I think this is the odd part. It is showing that the estimated duty is $0.00. Last time I checked this was like $500 for approx the same thing. With that, i would think that you'd be getting a bill for $100 from UPS.

I will say one thing to help "save" some money is self-clearing. I've purchased a number of items from the US and sucks that they always have UPS as their preferred delivery service (although they are not bad, really). The one that sucks is their brokerage fees as it depends on the total value of the goods. I always self-clear whenever I purchase anything with UPS delivery to avoid these ridiculous brokerage fees. Just my 2 cents.

Im 99% sure the estimated duty is where i saw what they were going to charge me. For sure It wasnt a bill that I got after from UPS showing me what the amount was because i didnt even order the bike yet when I was first looking.

Somethings weird on the Canyon site. I just checked on the Canyon site and the duty amount is shown on there

Agreed. i remember when looking at a gravel bike that number was like $700 and not 0.00. I suspect its a bug on their site currently

Yes. That is why I brought up the question. Sorry for the confusion caused. When I tried on the Endurace recently, it showed the tax (GST, etc) but zero for the Import Duty on the checkout.

In my case with Canyon the Brokerage fee ($ 28.05) that was charged by UPS was reasonable.
My total bill from UPS is $625.42

Yes, that is for sure reasonable. I've seen them charge crazy amounts up too $100+ just for their brokerage fees, those I think are ridiculous because really, all they have to do is clear it from customs.

Just an update to the Canyon order on an Endurace.

    UPS Customs brokerage charges: 16.80
    GST: 250.86
    Duty: 10.46

Looking at the breakdown on the Duty total (import + GST on part):
    Bell - 2.95 (Value for Duty 24.95)
    Multi-tool - 8.22 (Value for Duty 66.55)
Articles of plastic (don't know / remember what this is) - 0.74 (Value for Duty 6.25)
Deraillieur hanger - 1.55 (Value for Duty 30.95)
    Bike box / guard / cardboard - 5.41 (Value for Duty 29.00)

So, in my case, it seems the screen shot bike "duty" calculation / display of zero dollars is correct.

So no duties on the bike itself? Did you already get the bike?

It was supposed to be delivered today. But instead, they said attempted delivery and finally sent me this bill to pay.

But no duties on the bike itself. Just GST.

You just saved a bunch. Its so weird how for some it shows duties on the bike and some it doesn't.

Yes, saved a bunch in deed. I'm hoping that this is not a luck or one off thing.

Now, for the time being, I can say my wife's bike is more expensive than mine
