And the fact they have run these successfully in Edmonton for a while is just embarrassing for Calgary. I honestly thought we were way more open minded than this in Calgary.
An important point is that there have been successful ones in Calgary as well. This one just got the publicity. There are different groups hosting this types of events too.

I don't think anyone would rape my kid or hypothetical kid. But I do think the likelyhood of some creep jerking it or getting excited negates any possible "gain"

But I'll bet my lotus land friends back on Vancouver Island would be appalled at my response. it's like getting back to nature man..
    Wow.

I'll just post the whole thing again:

Parents -cough- religionists, generally teach their kids that their body is something to be ashamed of. The reason for this, is they themselves have been brainwashed into believing that our natural state of nakedness equates to sexuality. This idiocy leads to low self body image, promiscuity, low self esteem, drugs, then hell. In contrast, the natralists teach their kids that the body isn't a shameful thing. This leads to the opposite of the above destructive characteristics.

Yet again, the backwards thinking people have won.

Canceling a LEGAL event that teaches people (especially kids) not to be ashamed of themselves is fucked up. The naked swim is a liberating event that would prevent so much personal destruction.

The naked swim issue , can be summarized with these 2 points:

    1) Why are the naturists having the swim? (I already answered that).

    2) Why are some people opposed to it? I already answered that in a general psychological manner, but more specifically, they argue that this nude swim will be "Christmas for pedophiles".

The pedophile argument fails at so many levels, but here's a few:

    1) Under the age of 18 people must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

    2) Unlike public swims, participants have to register with photo ID, and no cameras, etc are allowed.

    3) Kids are often exposed to nakedness in pool change rooms without supervision. Where's the petition about that?

    4) Kids are far more exposed to pedophiles in the church (don't even get me started on that), so where's the crazy lady petition on that?

I'm curious if everyone would have the same stance on co-ed locker rooms being available at all public and private facilities (gyms, pools, etc). It's not fair that gay dudes can watch me undress but I can't watch their sister do the same

Does anyone who thinks this type of event is a pedophile magnet, not believe they are already at public pools, jerking it to your kids? It's not enabling them. They're already there.

If anything, they'll be outed because they can't hide their bones.

I'm guessing this division is only really common in north american culture. While it seems like european would have no problem with this. I wonder if people who've lived in other countries notice how bizarre we perceive nudity.
Coming from Europe, its pretty hilarious reading the thread and the views opposing it. Its blown out of proportion. I do find the nude element perceived different here. I mean its different in the UK, but totally different in Europe. The body is not sexualised as it is here.
I mean I find it more concerning that there is a Victoria secret for teens here. The sexualisation of children in north America is very concerning.

But then again we can look at it a different way. There are society's in other parts of the world where it has gone totally the other way. Look at the psychological effect of that..

The organiser did a interview on CBC last week and the points raised were covered.
Its a non issue, but the thread is entertaining.

I remember one of the kids I went to elementary school with said his favorite part of swim classes was 'accidentally' touching boobs. He'd be splashing around by some chics arms a flailing and keep getting closer til he touched one, it was pretty blatant but they always seemed to shrug it off. I'm sure pervs and pedos do this all the time, it is so common to bump into people over and over in a crowded pool. Remove the clothes and that a lot of free feelies waiting to happen. An hour naked in a pool vs 10 seconds in the locker room when you change your shorts - there's just no comparison.

It is odd that people don’t realize that pedos are such an extremely small minority population. Is it because they themselves have some sort of attraction to underage children so they think it’s common?

Over the years on beyond with the pedobear stickers, jailbait thread that had to be shut down and now this focus on pedos at a private family function some people seem to have at the very least a deep seated fascination with pedophilia.

I voted yes - it should be allowed. While it's not an event that I personally would attend (with or without my kids), I'm a big proponent of individuals being allowed to make their own choices and live their own lives (as long as they are not harming others). There's clearly no explicit harm being done to kids (or anyone) therefore this event should be allowed to proceed. If you don't like it, then don't attend, it's that simple. But, similarly to drug legalization or abortion, don't try to tell others what they can/can't do with their own bodies.

I believe parents should be allowed to raise their children as they see fit (even if I may not agree with every parenting decision they make), as long as there is no explicit harm to the child. To draw an analogy, if you decided to only feed your kids McDonalds, while I don't think that is the healthiest decision, since you aren't explicitly harming them (ie feeding them poisonous chemicals) I think you should be allowed to do so - it's your decision what to feed them, not my decision.

In the swimming pool case, there is clearly no explicit harm to the child. It's a nude SWIM, not a f*cking gang-bang..... Therefore, parents should be allowed to make the decision to either take their child, or not take their child. I have no right to restrict their decision, unless there is clearly explicit harm being done to the children (which there isn't).
I agree with the above quotes.

Where did the priest touch you? The sooner you open up about it the sooner you can move on from your trauma.
