I’m confused - if you’re friend went on an LTIA, the company would usually be required by a contract to provide “similar coverage to home or host country, whichever the Company chooses.” If he went there on local terms, he should have been part of the employers group coverage. If he went there with no employer coverage, he’s a contractor and shame on him - sign up for Blue Cross or something. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
You pay for healthcare one way or another. In the US, you use it, you pay. In Canada, everyone uses it, only the working man/woman pays. Just ask an ER nurse or labour and delivery nurse how many tourist babies they deliver a year.
Nothing is a "requirement". If you accept a position without healthcare then that is your prerogative. Companies are not obligated to give you healthcare. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I should clarify this point its not my manager telling me this its a project manager - hes locks onto people he likes working with. Fortunately or maybe unfortunately for me hes locked on to me as well. It would be roughly double my income (no taxes either) to move there, anyway early days yet. My group and manager we have lots of work on.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

And virtually impossible to buy real estate. Even finding a place to rent is difficult (from what I have read about). Have a couple Kiwi friends who confirm. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If you are an outdoors type of person, definitely sounds like the place to be.
Depends on where you are. Kelowna, for example, does tend to get that for a period of time. Yet, drive a couple of hours to Kamloops and they typically don't get it nearly as bad. (I'd still rather live in Kelowna)This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
We've got family out there. Wouldn't buy in Auckland. Taurunga, Cambridge, Coromandel, lots of places there that are within reach. I hear you on the rents thing in the bigger towns though. I gained 10 lbs on those meat pies during our month there though. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

This, which is none since it's a new wing and he is basically the 2nd employee, nothing is set up. Kinda stupid that he didn't ask in detail. On top of insurance, there are also BS with copay. On top kid got major allegy breakout due to something in Houston and hospitalized the 1st month there. Totally fucked up by copay and crap. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Grass is always greener on the other side. By the time you have kids, it's too late to move IMO unless you get a VP or CEO type executive role.
