Default How to burn healthcare spending account?

So i have $700+ in my heathcare spending account that expires at the start of march... whats something i could buy that i could put this toward, just looking for some ideas, maybe some sort of quality of life item that could be considered a healthcare item? i have lots of overhead of dental, massage and chiro... so i think its going to have to be more of a product than a service. I'd just hate to see it go to waste, i waste a lot of my benefits, but this is one i think would be easier to make use of. (just looking for some ideas, i know the eligibility of certain things is going to depend on the benefits plan)

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

Obviously as you said, depending on what qualifies:
    -sports equipment
-glasses / prescription sunglasses / non-prescription brand name sunglasses from a optom
-rec center passes / annual membership
-random non-required treatments like ear cleaning / custom orthodics

Not to game the system or anything... But if it is an actual product you can purchase, submit the refund, and return, you can just put $700 in your pocket.

So a piece of gym equipment for instance.

Not that I've EVER done this before when I realized I didn't have enough time to spend the $700. Nope.

Can you carry it over to the next year?

If you have a true HCSA as defined by the government, then sports equipment and gym membership doest qualify. If you can use it for equipment then it must be a taxable benefit.

Back in the day when I has access to two different HCSA's I dropped two grand on two pairs of glasses. Fucking baller.

Still rocking those glasses daily, since now I'm down to one HCSA in the house and my kid uses it up in first three months of every year.

This, those are usually commonly often referred to as “wellness accounts”. Standard HSA doesn’t cover that kind of stuff.

ExtraSlow is correct. Sports equipment and gym stuff typically do not qualify for health spending. Your benefits will provide of a list of eligible providers.

As for products, look for vision and maybe a pair of custom orthotics. Those things cost a fuckin' arm and leg. Otherwise just load up on nice glasses or sunglasses (and have them billed as prescription).

    Bling bling!

I've gotten computers and iPads for the parents and inlaws. These were on wellness accounts from UofC, you just need to explain how these will help your well being. Reason: Reading news, learning how to speak/read/write English better, and keep in touch with relatives overseas with video chatting with skype, wechat, qq, etc......

For myself I got a 12' trampoline for the kids as "exercise equipment". How about other items like house cleaning services, lawn maintenance, snow removal?

For me, last year's benefits went towards dental, eye check ups, and new contacts. As an alternative to looking for things to blow it on, have you looked back at some of the stuff you've already purchased/spent that can be claimed?

None of those qualify for the Health Spending Account.

That's a great way to get it denied and or risk getting denied and then you lose it and also your money.
Go with the tried tested and true way.
2 pairs of glasses and if that's not enough... get some massages... from ones with a proper certification.

Yes, totally different. One is a taxable benefit and the other is tax free.

Is this the Healthcare spending account or the health and wellness account? The health and wellness account, you can use that to claim things like gym pass, etc.. The actual Healthcare spending account, use it to claim the benefit premiums you paid for assuming you aren't on the base tier for coverage.

Also not that some organizations also have coverage for eye glasses, that's another $$$ you should pound off if your fam have glasses.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

I use it all towards my health and dental premiums for family coverage, so the full HSA amount is reimbursed to me annually as the premiums cost more (I'm with Sun Life). Just a lump sum transferred into my bank account right in time for Christmas shopping :-D

This is what I do too, but I don't get mine reimbursed until January sometime.

For the past 3 Fridays my wife and I have gotten a couples massage and then spent some time in the steam shower at Moyo Spa on 130th. Not a bad way to burn $250.

And boy howdy does it feel great.

So my wife has a HSA with sunlife too through cenovus - and shes pretty sure shes getting let go - so we are trying to think of how to use up $1000 worth of HSA in the next 5 days. I pay premiums through work for my family care (i believe she gets her part covered through her work) but mine would amount to around $1000 for the year. Would that be an eligible expense my only "receipt" would be my payslips though.

    im talking about the premiums.

    TLDR
Her Family Premiums are covered by Flex Dollars, mine through my work are paid by me. Can we claim my premiums on the HSA she has under me.
