There is a twitter account that never misses tweeting any car/pedestrian accident, but conveniently never tweets the cause or follow up investigation.

New article out today about this again:
https://calgaryherald.com/news/local...box=1571669211
We're going to get blanket 30km/h, if not today, then shortly after. Transit and bylaw will be able to hand out tickets, and we'll be funding CPS more through ticket revenue. What the city is doing is painfully obvious. The whole 30/30 is too extreme, let's walk it back a bit. Then we'll go all about cost savings no more playground zone signs and blanket 30.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Where's the "lower speed limits = more time on the road = more carbon emissions" argument?

I say stupid shit all the time.
I wonder how they define an injury collision, doesn't everyone that gets hit by someone else in Canada claim injury as a way to get more money out of the insurance companies?
I'm too lazy to look into this but I highly doubt we have 680 fatal collisions a year. I bet we have less than a tenth. Not surprising the city has no idea what they're talking about.“Similarly, of the 680 fatal and injury collisions per year on residential and collector roads, administration anticipates the reduced speed limit of 30 km/h would result in 140 – 270 fewer fatal and injury collisions per year.”
They grouped fatal and injury together, with fatal being mentioned first to sound way more serious business. The numbers is also city wide, and not just for the residential areas. It's misleading as fuck. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Go back 5 or 6 pages, and I've posted every single fatal collision in residential areas. It's like 5, although I want to say we added 1 more since then.

According to the City: [calgary.ca https://pub-calgary.escribemeetings....umentId=32882]
(2016) Total City-wide Collisions - 43,369 Fatal Collisions - 26.
This story says: “there are approximately 10,250 total collisions per year, which includes 680 fatal collisions”.
For comparison, Edmonton stats [https://www.edmonton.ca/transportati...sSummary.pdf]:
(2018) Total Collisions 24,003 Fatal Collisions 19
I think its because they are including injury collisions in their numbers, and as per my point above if they are getting these injury details from the insurance providers - everyone claims injury in a major collision dont they.
Doesn’t the fatal count also include people being hit by C train

Federal numbers: https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/motorvehicl...tics-2017.html
So no, we definitely don't have 680 fatal injuries on Calgary streets. They are likely using federal numbers but only for residential roads. In 2017, the number of motor vehicle fatalities was 1,841; down 2.8% from 2016 (1,895)
This is the data for residential roads covered by the speed limit reduction. Data from last year, I think we've added 1 since then, the cyclist one somewhere in the south.
edit - was wrong, that was a motorcyclist. Quick google shows nothing new since this post in residential areas.

More bike lanes would help make the pedestrian realm safer as well without the need speed limit reduction. One of the ways better planning and design will actually make streets safer, rather than just changing a sign and pretending it's safer. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. This is the real key here. Council has already posited giving Bylaw officers the ability to man photo radars and hand out tickets. It's going to be a massive, massive cash cow for the City and CPS.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
