    Now in Canada.

    Will hit up a Starbucks tomorrow and start a rant about white people (like I normally do) to see if a crash course actually does anything.

    Of course - its been well documented.

    I'm not saying sensitivity training isn't a good thing - I'm saying they cant just ignore the safety of their customers and have anarchy in their stores either. To me it sounds like a carte blanche to anyone else to hang out in starbucks without being a customer. And as is the trend nowadays every other company is going to follow suit. Remember Tim Hortons crap thrower? That person was told to leave by staff and she didnt do anything initially. Turns out she had a history with the location of destroying bathrooms and being trespassed in the past. Yeah that's the person who you are following after they trashed the bathroom, flung crap on the walls and left behind some syringes that you didn't see and stuck your foot on. Sounds like a fun place to go to!

    Technically speaking the guys in Philly broke the law. They were asked to buy something or leave, refused, stayed there for a while until the cops showed up, were told by the police to leave, refused, and were escorted out.

    Now, I know them being asked to leave in the first place was the root cause of the issue, but who truly knows why? Is it because the starbucks was constantly inundated with non-customers who come in to use their wifi or trash their washrooms and dont let their customers sit down? Is it because the guys never explained themselves to staff prior to the police being called? Is there a safety issue with trespassers in the past? Were these guys argumentative with staff and making a scene? Theres a multitude of reasons why they could have been kicked out. It doesn't mean that they were kicked out because they were black. Had they ordered a drink they would have still been in there.

    I mean if I walked into some restaurant and didn't order anything I would expect to be kicked out. That happens every single day out there and people are kicked out. Can you imagine crackmacs with a no-one is trespassing policy?

    Had this been a couple white guys it would have never made the news. Everyone is just making everything about race just to spark outrage and further fuel racial tensions. Again, not saying theres no racial bias out there, just saying that the whole thing has been blown completely out of proportions.

    I think part of the point is that many think that loitering should not be illegal. Loitering should especially not be illegal when its -30 or +30 Celsius outside, regardless of race, gender or economic situation.

    The entire generation of the 1960's loitered for a few years. Is a person who sits around in a heavily populated area an unsightly bum, or do you just treat him like one of the birds? In Calgary especially, its ingrained in the culture because we pay extra, $400 per month to let our cars sit around in 20 degree Celsius, no moisture - Downtown area all day. Which definitely starts to get into the idea of "paying to exist" in a certain spot - which I'm not totally sure was the entire idea of America in the first place (Freedom and Liberty) I'm pretty sure Trump would disagree (Rent is a way of life, if you want to stay in the Casino and sleep in a bed - you have to keep the money flowing of you get kicked out.)

    Inclusive or Exclusive. I tend to find some parts of white culture to be exclusive (cigars and brandy in the mensroom) while other cultures tend to be more inclusive. Its especially hard to understand coming from the outside, because people tend not to see the white people excluding the other white people - which to many is completely normal. I always found it extremely strange however - especially when it comes to employment where white people tend to congregate in their own little seclusion zone and will actually actively sabotage not only other races, but other white people as well *cough* Anders *cough*.

    I mean technically if you want the glory of being the fastest man in the world, and have the ability to break the legs of every competitor - then do it?

    Spoilers.

    Ahh well - I'm just glad that they haven't figured out a way to charge membership fees, clubhouse fees, green fees, cart fees, tee fees, and caddy fees and then sell you $20 worth of mosquito repellent in the shop, to throw my ball in Pokémon Go. Lol white fees.

    Augmented Reality golf could really mess up the entire pay to play culture.

    If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

    Right. Like you said the root of the issue was that a) they were asked to buy or leave in the first place; and b) that police were called. According to multiple eye witnesses, the interaction went something like this:

    Guy: Can I get the key to the bathroom?
    Manager: It's for paying customers only. Please leave.
    Guy: Okay, well we're just waiting for someone.
    Manager: Please leave.
    <Guys sit down>
    <Manager calls police>

    Replace the manager's requests for them to leave, and this sounds exactly like a conversation Starbucks employees have all the time. The men sat down as they waited for their friend, presumably before ordering because that would be the polite thing to do. Police were called almost immediately after this interaction, and they arrived 15 minutes later, just about the same time the group's friend was arriving.

    Given that Starbucks markets, and prides itself, on being that "third place" between a customer's home and work, it's not uncommon for people to spend a lot of time there while having only ordered one drink, if even at all. The point isn't that the guys didn't leave when asked, and thus technically breaking the law. It's that the guys weren't given the benefit of the doubt by the manager, who immediately asked them to leave and then immediately called the police. If this had happened to a couple white guys, this might not have made the news. But the argument could be made that if a couple white guys asked sat down in a Starbucks without paying, they wouldn't have been asked to leave in the first place.
