so if the libs win do they become the majority power since they hold 44 seats or does it cause a general election?
No, it means that its a tie. The NDP/Green can then call an election or choose to compromise and work with each other.

It will be a tie, Green will lose power/influence for sure and the speaker will be the tie breaker if everyone votes on party line.

But since the speaker is now involved in a spending scandal (not sure the detail). Chances are good they a election will be called if Liberal takes this riding.

Roy said Friday that he believes Plecas timed the release of his report to distract from the recall campaign and boost support for the NDP government ahead of the Nanaimo byelection which, if the Liberal candidate wins on Wednesday, could trigger an early provincial election.

“The reality is, right when the recall became available, like a week or so later, Plecas put (James and Lenz) on suspension,” said Roy. “It shouldn’t have taken two-and-a-bit months to get this report done. He waited and sat on it, we believe.”

Depends on the your allegiance, speaker isn't unbias and the scandal started to solidify NDP's chances in by-election and avoid his own recall.

    Dirty politics is dirty.

A tie usually ends in an election one way or the other unless one party can negotiate an alliance with a smaller party or some independents.

    NDP 41 - Green 3 - Liberal 41 - Ind - 1

So it's 44 vs 42 right now. So that 1 seat change yeilds 43/43 and that independent MLA has all the POWER.

That independent MLA is the speaker who was a part of the liberal caucus. But I think they kicked him out for accepting the role of speaker. And I think it's 41-3 to 42 + the liberal(ish) speaker. If the liberals win it sounds like it will be a new election due to the speaker not being a liberal anymore

    Fuck.
What's up with the morons at the Georgia Strait reporting that Harris (Liberals) won? They called it over an hour ago and it was impossible to have a result that quickly. Are they trolling?

Edit - now they have the correct story and people are leaving comments giving them shit for acting like it never happened. I bet it was all a test to see how many people found their page from searches and then quoted their incorrect result as news.

Not sure how I got my hopes up about people on Vancouver island making a grown up decision. I should really know better.

They made a decision that benefits them. "Them" being retirees who want more money/benefits, and don't give a shit about long term, because they'll be dead in less than a decade.

Yup. That's why it was never a risk even without the scandal. With the scandal, it's almost 100% NDP.

Was having a pint with a couple from the island in Sausalito waiting for the Ferry and they are really into green energy and EVs. Of course, since it's not the internet, never brought up the raw sewage problem they are having but I guess they would say it's biodegradable.

As much as we have been making our living and life's worth on the energy industry, I think it's coming to an end. Even if it comes back, the industry will not operates like it was before.

Fuck, I always bring that "shit" up when talking to Islanders. I'm not even pro O&G, but if they even mention the envirnoment in any way, I respond with it.

You mean, this sewage? The one that has no real impact on the environment?
