Default Pulsating steering wheel while braking

So I picked up an 01 Lexus LS430 with a myriad of small issues that I'm trying to solve before I put it on the road.

One of the issues I just wanted some opinions on. The guy I bought it from stays there was a shaking in the steering wheel when braking. He put new OEM rotors and pads on the front and it went away and started again not long before I bought it.

I pulled the rotors off today(only 8k km on them) and they look fine, but I'm going to take them in tomorrow to have them looked at.

The car has had an alignment very recently and it drives and tracks perfectly other than braking. The only other thing I can think of is an unbalanced wheel, but I feel like it would shake all the time if that was the case.

I'm out of ideas though lol any other ideas on this? I'm on OEM wheels btw.

I mean, it's possible the wheel bearing could be bad but there'd be other signs. My money is on the rotors being cheapies and they warped again.

Can we all put the phrase "warped rotors" in quotes please. I believe that the accepted term is Disc thickness variation or DTV.

But yeah, aside from me being pedantic, that's what it is, classic signs.

They are supposed to be OEM rotors, they weren't cheap, I have the invoice. But I agree that it seems like warped rotors, but after 8k wtf?

If dude had a habit of braking hard, and then leaving his foot on the brakes, its very possible he could have just created cementite on the pads.

My car came from such an owner and after year of me driving properly, the issue went away.

if they werent bedded properly or the wheels weren't torqued properly or there was a lot of heavy braking, or a combo of the 3, they could have warped.

seems to me the term warped rotors is more commonly used and understood than the garb you spewed....

Sounds like the classic signs of disc thickness variation

Just classic overly sensitive LS430 front end... my money is still on him running non-hubcentric aftermarket wheels that shook at 80km/h and 110km/h... creating a variation in disc thickness in no time!

Did the same thing on mine when I needed 5mm slip on spacers to clear those big 4 pots... didn’t take long to ruin the second set at all

Yep. I took them in this morning and he said they were "heat checked" were not broken in properly, so they are "warped rotors" lol

Now, it was just a small napa that isn't corporate and doesn't even sell these rotors, but told me to go into one in the city and I might be able to get them replaced.

Will update once I do this.

You're right....but I added the term "people" as to not single him out, and make it seem like he has legs to stand on haha....

If they were OEM rotors, why would NAPA replace them for you??....that doesn't make sense for these WARPED ROTORS....

Ya they're not OEM, they are a "high end" brand that napa sells the guy said. $150 a rotor.

OEM from a Lexus dealer is probably less than that...I know the most expensive rotor at a Toyota dealer is 120.00 haha....

Massaging steering wheel option. Those LS430s are loaded with features.

I don't understand the big stirrup when it comes to whether "warped rotors" can happen or not. Clearly something happens , you can call it what you want but at the end of the day, they are fucked and have low spots.
