Can someone take a look at this file for me and tell me if it would print alright? I'm not sure what sort of thickness would work well for 3d printing.

I had to upload as a .txt file so if you download it just rename it to a .stl file

    tbolt holder (final).txt

@firebane looks good to me, 2mm thick base, probably good for most uses, really depends on it's end use though

Its going to be used to secure a T bolt to a part so it will be glued down. Appreciate the feedback.

2mm thickness should be plenty, especially if its on a flat surface like a washer

Just make sure to use an appropriate material, if its going to be outdoors PLA will likely warp in the heat, ABS or PETG would be preferable. But for indoors only PLA would be fine.

I can print for you if you'd like. I can also make changes but i'll need to model it. Let me know.

Good info and would definitely want ABS if possible.

Appreciate the offer but this may take a few tweaks to get right as I only used rough measurements based off the bolt itself and it may need tweaks down the road. And once it was proper would need 16 of them done.

I may consider a used printer as being in Strathmore options are pretty limited.

I know nothing about 3D printing.
Wife is into all kind of craft work and our daughter is also showing signs of interest in making her ideas to various objects.
So I am thinking a 3D printer will be a good Family christmas Gift.
What will be a decent Starting 3D Printer?
From my little research I am leaning towards a Bambu 3D Printer.
What will be a good Printer ? Bambu Lab P1S Or Bambu Lab X1 Carbon

i just recently got the p1s combo, it's a great trouble free printer so far... massive step up from my previous printer. and the ecosystem with their makerworld website makes it super easy for people who cant design things themselves.

Do you mind posting what the combo included? I have no idea and I want to make sure I get all the tools needed so that they can open it and Enjoy.

the combo just means it comes with the AMS, that's just a accessory that holds 4 different spools and can allow you to do multicolour projects,

as an example I recently did this lightbox

100% recommend a Bambu. I have the X1C. Its friggin fast and it just works.

Also get the AMS if its in the budget. Its nice having a second roll queue'd up for when the first runs out mid-print, or having two separate materials loaded up so you can send ABS jobs without having to switch out the PLA or whatever. And dry your filament before use. If wife and daughter want to use it I'm sure they'll appreciate multi-color printing too.

Grab the liquid glue stick and a textured PEI plate if you plan to print other than PLA.

From amazon: I like a cheap deburring tool for cleaning up edges when needed, and a cheap nozzle cleaning kit too.

Also you'll burn through the included filament in no time so grab at least 2-4 rolls with spools as well. They're usually pretty quick to ship filament too, maybe 2-3 days to my door. You can use other brand filaments but the Bambu stuff is really high quality so I've never felt the need to switch that up.

Don't put abrasive filaments i.e. CF infused stuff through the AMS, they'll cut into the little feeder cup things.

The CF stuff and anything with additives ie. sparkle, wood etc can eventually plug the 0.4mm nozzle, so you could buy a 0.6mm nozzle for that if you want. Plugs are annoying but has only happened to me once and was due to CF filament.

Thanks for the detail information. It really helps me with my decision.

I've just been using practically any filament from amazon that has a plastic spool, way cheaper than bambu, like $20-25/spool and a lot of it shows up next day

    I've used
    Sunlu
    CCC3D
    IBoss

It all prints amazingly... only problem is it's too convenient, i am now up to about 25 different spools and i have only had the printer for a couple weeks, lol.

    - - - Updated - - -

i also suggest these cereal containers, i am up to 24 of em now.., it 's almost the perfect size for the spools, drop a little silica in the bottom of the bin and you're good.

that's pretty neat, probably overkill though to have them rotating, i just have a cheap sunlu one, toss my new rolls in for a 6 hour sauna and then put em in a box with colour indicating silica.
