Taxes - Moving

We moved last year for my wifes job. They gave her a relocation reimbursement, but not even close to covering all the potentially tax deductible fees.
Can we still claim moving expenses, and then just lop off what was reimbursed, or is the fact that they gave any money to her nix us from claiming any?

It pretty much covers everything including your question.

Situations where your moving expenses are not allowable:

your new home is not at least 40 kilometers (by the shortest usual public route) closer to your new work or school
expenses for which you were reimbursed by your employer and that are not included in your income
expenses for which you do not have the required supporting documentation

Still doesn't seem cut and dry there. If his moving expenses exceeded the reimbursement, are those deductable or because he got any reimbursement, the exceeded expenses are no longer tax deductable?

Personally I'd just call CRA.

I read it as eligible expenses that are not reimbursed and not included in your income are fair game. Partial reimbursement is fine, as there is a portion that is not reimbursed.

Called them and it’s as above, total minus reimbursement. Only issue now is we are right on the grasps of 40 km closer
