If you go new, I'd say 50k rig, 30k trailer, but if you go a few years old, probably 35-40k for a half-ton (harder to pull off given all the trucks heading south) and 20k for the trailer. Search for R-Pod, Micro Minnies, apex nano, etc. Recommend just going to a few dealers and trying to walk through as many trailers as you can to get a sense of the features and floorplans you prefer, and then having a few kijiji alerts for the models/keywords you're seeking. Don't recommend buying from a dealer personally, but maybe others will have a different opinion.

Definitely there were days this year I wished I had a more competent offroad vehicle. luxo-barge lariat does well enough on fire road MTB shuttles but i feel like my old Tacoma would trounce it once things get even sorta rough.
What I don't understand is the trendy-overlander rooftop tent craze. If I was going RTT it would ONLY be on a tow-behind "expedition" trailer; having to set up and break down tent daily when you venture from home base would be a huge PITA

If you have cash to burn, I camped next door to a
Cricket this year and it looked friggin' badass. If all you're doing is hitting provincial campsites though it's pricey for what you're getting.
