This whole 'travellers should self-isolate' is a joke. Theres tons of stories of people not doing it. They need to step up and force these people to stay home and not go to get groceries etc because its fucking everyone. Or a forced 14-day quarantine like the Canadians that were repatriated from China.

Hospitality(hotel). some of the local businesses are still open in the valley, as Government of Alberta hasn't announce the closure of all non essential services yet.

I haven't been able to find a list of which businesses are or are not essential but someone posted a link to a list out of Pennsylvania and lodging was essential. I think you're fine.

Taiwan's been doing it by tracking phones. Sure, its a bit of a 'big brother' issue but we are in some weird times and something like that could totally be legal under the Federal Quarantine Act.

Other thing they can do is mandatory testing as they enter the airports, but they would need to increase testing capacity for that.

It's pretty simple. Our curve is not currently flattening now because of magic. The curve is flattening because we have taken actions to achieve that result. Actions like banning incoming travel from affected countries, and quarantine for potentially infected persons. Starting these actions earlier when we had a heads up this was coming, and having stricter actions, could have nipped this in the butt with a lot fewer cases and kept us out of a state of emergency. Which means there was potential that people could have kept going to work, stores staying open, the economy functioning for the most part. Decimating the tourism industry might sound bad, but it's a hell of a far cry from decimating each and every industry we have!

So again with the 'what we are doing is too extreme and damaging to the economy, but we should have started stricter actions sooner' logic.

Countries that banned travel from affected countries still have an outbreak. They're two of the leaders in cases, one of which is still in lockdown. The other's economy is also in the shitter. Look at the evidence, the plan wouldn't have worked but probably wouldn't have given what we understand about travel restrictions and looking at results. What it definitely would have started is beginning the crippling effects to certain parts of the economy even sooner, before we get to where we are now. Without treatments or a vaccine, this point was an inevitability, the sooner people wrap their heads around that the sooner this ridiculous right wing talking point will die.

I can't see that happening. Conservative advocates would jump all over Trudeau for such a move and the public would revolt as many still don't accept what a big deal this really is.

I really don't understand how restaurants aren't shut down here yet. 50 percent capacity is not going to stop transmission.
