So ive had a brutal cold that is going on day 7. Started with stuffed nose, then slight cough and phlegm. I tested 5x w/ rapid tests, all negative. I even horked (sp?) A lougie (sp?) And swabbed it but all negative. How accurate are these rapid home tests (green box from pharm) for omicron?
Tldr; he died in progress
Tap, Rack, BANG!
My parents both got a "cold", all inline with covid symptoms, they tested negative the entire time. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I also got said "cold", probably because there was a family dinner with the folks and friends right around when it started to spread.
I had symptoms, tested negative the first night of symptoms (mild), then two days later as symptoms worsened tested positive.
I'd say that if you test positive, you are very likely to be positive. And if you test negative, you still may be positive.
So dates wise, symptoms started last Monday eve, tested positive Wednesday eve, still suffering from mild symptoms and was bedridden Thursday. So yea, 7 days and counting.
The actions you take from here on out aren't really different based on testing anyway. Stay home if you are sick. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

OR!
Hear me out...
Maybe you caught a cold and not covid?
Wild thought, I know.
^^^ that is crazy talk the only sickness is Covid….
My family was really sick over Xmas and we tested negative the whole time … two weeks later I had a runny nose and tested positive.
On the test make sure you are touching your brain for 15 secs …
But if you test positive you are positive , if you test negative you need to make sure you are going the test right …
But ES is right stay home if sick
There is a pretty bad cold going around right now based on a few coworkers. None of them have tested positive.

Having just wrapped up COVID in the household I can say that it was quick to onset quick to go away. Everything was cold like in symptoms aside from the headache which I rarely get and had for a solid 48 hours and the fatigue. I'm not a big sleeper maybe 6 hours a night and it has caught up with me big time . I'm only 10 days post COVID symptoms, but tired seemingly all the time. I keep telling myself it's just in my head, but I fall asleep watching tv, and a tough day at work is a really tough day it's so weird .
One of.my kids was sick 48 hours, me maybe 24 hours(minus headaches), but my wife was 7 days downhill and now gradually getting better but has awful cough and fatigue .

Get a hooker on the way home. Or bring one to the old folks home, depending on your preference.

The rapid tests do not work well with the omicron variant. The instructions tell you to do a nasal swab which is not effective at detecting omicron. What people should be doing is throat and cheek swabs. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Serious question, why self-test right now?

They work even less well on Omi. Had a family we are friends with get it, 2 tested +ve, 3 -ve, ALL had same symptoms, 2 are stuck with long covid.
But hey, everyone is a medical expert, and Covid is just a cold.

When my family got Covid early February it took me 6 days from when symptoms started to finally test positive. By that point my symptoms were almost gone and I was cleared up by day 7. Based on AHS requirements/ guidelines, I effectively was not required to isolate…….This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Up until when I finally tested positive, I assumed i might be testing wrong despite swabbing my mouth and nose everyday. The wife and kids had all tested positive with rapid test and also PCR so I paid for a PCR test on day 4 despite a negative rapid test. They swabbed my mouth and nose but again came up negative. By day 6 I got a faint positive on rapid then a confirmed positive on PCR.
The explanation I received was despite getting sick from Covid, with certainty, my viral load was too low to get a positive test. I found it strange that when I finally got a positive, this was not in line with the sickest I felt over the timeframe of being sick. As mentioned, the day I tested positive my symptoms were almost non-existant.
