now that I'm getting older and am more about function than form... no issues from me to wear anything from Orient, Seiko 7s26, or a ETA lower tier brand or swiss watch with 2892/2824 based movement

Value for dollar, CYMA and Mido's offer very nice looking automatic watches

that said, I'm kinda done with fancy automatic calibers and smart watches... I'm thinking of just a half decent tough Quartz watch with a sapphire crystal, good waterproofing and a rubber or nato band.

After a while you just realize that all you need to do is tell time.

The Hamilton Khaki is very nice looking... but is there a field watch that maybe is even more shock resistant? (I don't like luminox... I've had tritium tubes fall off).
I think Mido is offering some of the best value for quality right now bar none. 80 hour power reserve, silicone balance spring so no issues with magnets fucking up time, many COSC certified chronometers, etc all make for a high quality piece. Bezel house carries the line and Ryan is always willing to work a great deal in person!

Went with a seiko 5. Going to pick up a nato strap or a rubber one but I wanted to start with a bracelet considering they were the same price.

Not sure why the picture wont load from my phone...

Great choice! The steel bracelet is decent and better value, but the rubber straps is better IMO. I bought both version in Dec.

Just picked up this Orient, it is nice, don't know why I never got one before!

As a hater of metal bracelets I must say after trying an MN style strap it has now become my favourite, beating out the old natos by a mile

Gotta try one of these, super comfy and way cleaner of a look than a nato

found out about this from @A790 WYCA facebook post

    https://mitchmason.com/

talking to the owner, we share the same taste for watches and he seems very passionate about this project and welcomes any feedback so I'm very excited to support this, looking to get the Field grey version.
Love the second hand on the Jet Black as it reminds me of the Seiko SARG011 but the Field grey look is timeless.

The steel blue and field grey are both my picks. Looking forward to seeing if they're as good as they seem.

I've considered the steel blue as well as I wouldnt mind trying a blue dial but I'm a sucker for matte black dials.
plus I've been GASing for blue hands for a while (was actually considering the Stowa Marine Classic 36 arabic for this reason)

Classic designs here with mechanical movements. Wish they had sapphire faces.

No sapphire is an immediate non-starter for me.

Yea, especially now that micros basically come with them by default. These are the same guys behind Xeric watches.

After going through a few mineral faces, I swore off them because they scratch so easy.

Had to chuckle in their description that mineral is "more shatter-resistant than sapphire". Maybe true, maybe not but very obviously trying to downplay how much better sapphire really is.

I actually mentioned this on one of their ads on Facebook, their response was trying so hard to be belittling:

We beg to differ with you as we're pretty sure we have more experience than you. People coming from outside the mechanical and automatic watch world need to enter slowly and affordably in most cases. We've created a well designed, quality watch that is extremely affordable. Sapphire is for sure required on watches $1,000 plus as they are demanded by the enthusiasts. These watches are for people who want to break away from the tethers of always being plugged in without breaking the bank. Hardened mineral glass holds up beautifully, we know, we been in the business for quite some time.

Is there a tool to monitor historical prices? I use WatchRecon a bunch, but figured there might be something that trends the posting prices for watches.
