How much meat do you eat per meal? 30lbs should last a month even for a family of four, I'd think.

All this food stocking, meanwhile if you actually get it, you won't be eating anything.

You want to prepare, get a tank of oxygen.

Smaller deer would be less then 30 pounds. Keep in mind most of the deer will be hamburger or jerkey. Maybe the odd small roast. If you turn your hamburger into burgers, smokies and sausages it's really easy to utilize 30 pounds of deer. A small batch of jerkey is 10 pounds.

If your mixing your deer with other meat then it will certainly last a bit but it's really easy to utilize the meat.

I'm just thinking, if I make spaghetti sauce, one pound of beef feeds my family of four and provides leftovers.
Same with stir fry or most other dishes.
So, no matter what meat it is, or how it's cut, averaging 1/4lb per person per meal seems kind of reasonable.

3-5 oz of meat for a grown adult at a meal. so 4 servings per pound. You can certainly survive on much less.

I shot 3 deer this year. I get about 30-60lb per animal. I make mostly sausages and jerky. I’m stocked up like a MF.

Why was everyone buying toilet paper yesterday? is Calgary never getting shipments of toilet paper again?

Because the media reported shelves were being wiped, so this is what people think they need to hoard.

Although, I suppose if you are making steaks and you are a typical gluttonous male, that probably sounds like starvation rations. I have a buddy who eats about a pound of meat every meal. He's about as large and healthy as you'd think.

Anyone buying MRE's or food that can be stored long term?

I was considering a few buckets of Legacy's meals:

Having to eat those might be a fate worse than Coronavirus lol.
There are actually some out there that aren't too bad. I have about a month's worth if I ate two meals a day, could certainly eat one per day and supplement with some other things without issue. You're not eating a five star meal, but the ones I have aren't terrible.

I might buy a flat of soup, some crackers and an extra bag of food for the dog. Not worried about some breakdown of society that makes it impossible to get food

Less busier places should still have some. I was at home depot and coop yesterday and they both had lots. It's just the mindset from busier places when people see someone leaving with a cart full of TP that causes a frenzy.

Ahh okay, when I was at Co-op yesterday I saw multiple people only buying toilet paper and thought that's weird...then I saw all the memes on the Calgary subreddit and I was like what happened today to cause everyone to buy TP lol

I could understand medicine, canned food, etc.

But toilet paper????? Does it all come from a TP manufacturer in Wuhan, and it's been shut down for a month or something?

Dammit, now the only reason I want to buy toilet paper when we don't need it is so we do have some on hand when our current regular supply runs out. And now the wife has a head cold, we're gonna have to wipe with leaves in no time

2 a day would be a lot unless you are active duty military. They are a solid 1500Cal generally?

I’m talking military MRE’s, not backpacking freeze dried meals.

I think these ones are about 1200 if you eat absolutely everything and have both drinks. These aren't the freeze dried ones, they are made by a US DOD contractor using military MRE components, they even include the flameless ration heaters.
