I agree that neither side ran a particularly compelling campaign. There was a lot of mud slinging when they could have been using that time to explain how they were going to make Alberta better. Or, at least, CLAIM how they were. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I would say the main reason the UCP won is primarily due to Alberta's inherent conservative public - who also feel that the provincial government would govern hand-in-hand with Trudeau, who most conservatives don't like. This is probably at least largely true. We have a lot of hicks and cowboys in this province, and most of them wouldn't dream of voting anything other than Conservative - regardless of crappy policies or an untrustworthy leader. This is nothing new; this province has almost always historically been a Conservative stronghold and any other party has always been up against stiff competition from the other side.
Going slightly more granular, I also think that many Albertans are fed up with the federal government hamstringing our industry. I don't like DS or most of what she stands for, but I will agree she's going to champion O&G far better than the NDP would have - plus the public is tired of economic instability, and let's just say the NDP is often a party associated with overspending and poor economic policies.
I think the UCP winning was pretty much a foregone conclusion.
dont bother trying to reason with them, i gave practically the same explaination a couple pages back and they're still here repeating the same nonsense. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Lot of frustration from both sides here. Politics really divides people, doesn't it.

This is a contentious one. It will be probably less controversial if Smith isn't the leader. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I hope there are enough seats loss to keep Smith in check or shit will get worse.
100%, i could tolerate Kenney's policy, Smith is just a nutcase... DeSantis of the north, commence the book banning. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

If it's true that the NDP were only a couple of thousand votes, across six districts, away from forming a government, then DS did some major damage to the UCP brand in only 8 months. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I bet the board of directors is already planning a replacement effort.
Well, you can cherry pick any close race and claim one aide was "that many votes away" from winning the seat or seats. But close races went both ways, so the opposite opinion is equally valid. NDP were a few thousand gates away from a much worse showing as well.

I like how the radio hosts today were already talking about a fractured ucp that's not committed when the topic should have been how the hell did the NDP lose to Smith and who's being held accountable.
As terryfying as it is had the ndp not been half retarded on some issues they could have easily won more ridings.
There was a clear path to victory for the ndp. They really dropped the ball not that the media's discussing that.
Some days I do think the biggest flaw is they didn’t name / brand themselves as the ADP (Alberta Democratic Party) instead. Position themselves as socially progressive but fiscally center and they’d probably have won. Alberta will always have a hatred for anything federal so keeping themselves a further arms length away could’ve been the ticket.
Though at the same time the Alberta party never took off so maybe I’m just an idiot rambling.
Tyler Scamdro's former constituents feel safe using their driveways again.
MAGA = My Ass Got Arrested.
Beware the passive aggressive Mean Girls. Vengie, Killramos, Penismightier, buster, jrscoolude, etc who bully others into their circle jerk opinion, serially negging you, while claiming they ignore you and don't obsess over you.
PSA. High school is not a popularity contest little girls
It is crazy how there is no middle ground anymore. Either you are righty or lefty.
Desantis is either so far right that it doesn't make sense, or he is so far left that it does. The middle is a lie.
Cocoa $9,000 per tonne.
Thats the thing though, it should never even have been this close in Alberta. UCP has done an ok job since they took office so there really isn’t any reason they should have lost seats. Danielle is the only difference here. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
No way to prove it one way or another but I’d bet any amount of money that UCP would have won more seats if it was still JK or any one else leading the UCP.

It was a more winnable race for NDP than is typical in Alberta that's for sure.

Jason Kenney was so so so so so so bad that we needed to eject him IMMEDIATELY from the party so we could install DanielleRegard.
Ever since then? Rainbows of prosperity!
I always thought the public ousting Jason Kenney was comical.
Id be curious to hear what your criteria is for an okay job? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Because from my view:
We wasted over a billion on a pipeline that was clearly already failed before we committed money.
We wasted money on a rushed arena deal as a election buy
We’re getting screwed on kananaskis and crown lane camping fees.
Really the only ‘good’ thing I can think of is we posted a huge surplus this year but ironically that’s partially due to the NDP changing the royalties to a better sliding scale for >2017 drilled wells which is most of what’s online now.
