Large transfers are always an into bank endeavor. If it's the weekend, you drop a deposit via e-transfer if seller is concerned you're a tire kicker.

This is something you delegate to your personal assistant.

How much is a “large sum of money”.

    Asking for a friend.

I guess I've just been stupid and/or lucky, but historically I somewhat regularly (i.e. 2-3x a year) exchange drafts >$30k for vehicles and have never followed a buyer into a branch to verify the draft. After reading a story about fraud I do verify their identity via photo ID and match it to the draft, but I acknowledge that that isn't absolute proof of anything.

how rampant is bank draft fraud? I don't hear a ton about it.

I once bought a truck that was stolen but unreported stolen and the dumbass met me at his house, and gave me his ID and the registration to the truck in his name (he was the actual thief). NEVER. TRUST. ANYONE.
