Any person found to have made an offensive comment about another person's race, gender or disability — or otherwise abusive remark — in a Calgary public space could now face a $500 fine after city council amended an existing bylaw to add policies on street harassment.

When can we just all just call a spade a spade again?
Our mayor thinks we're idiots.
https://calgaryherald.com/news/local...ur-year-budget
One budget document indicated that after accounting for expected new revenue from growth and redevelopment, the city will still need to take in 4.4 per cent more in property tax next year. That number drops to 3.3 per cent in 2024, followed by 3.7 per cent in 2025 and 3.2 per cent in 2026.
Mayor Jyoti Gondek said increasing home prices means the city may be able to take a smaller slice of the pie from each homeowner in taxes.
“Indications are that the market is strong and assessed, property values have gone up, which means if we left our mill rate the same, we would collect more than we needed,” said the mayor. “So we might be able to adjust our mill rate down, still have enough to pay for inflation and population growth and keep service levels steady.”

The property tax shell game is very effective at obfusticating what the city takes from citizens. Extremey effective.
Calgarians are idiots. They elected her after all

We don't want to build outward, we want more development in multi-unit high-rise condos within current city limits. But these NIMBYs won't give up their 5 bedroom 3 bath builder grade homes that they already have. If people truely care about the environment they should kill themselves because individual people are the biggest threat to this planet, not more houses. Stop having kids and the earth will be fine.
I blame everyone with more than 2 kids. Two is replacing you and your spouse. With an acceptable loss rate from various factors, we would slowly reduce our population. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Has the mayor tweeted about this yet?Ryan Pleckaitis with the City of Calgary community standards division said their officers can’t pick sides.
“We have to apply any bylaw fairly and impartially,” Pleckaitis explained.
“If you’re harassing somebody based on gender identity so too is harassing someone based on religious beliefs and we need to step away from the message and look at what our bylaw says and the evidence in front of us and make a determination whether to move forward with charges.”

Nenshi was able to worm his way out of many contentious issues, Gondek does not have the same ability.
