Question LG TVs and remote interference.

    Hey everyone.

I did end up buying the new LG C1 OLED TV. It's pretty awesome but I have ran into a small, but annoying problem with my set up.

The C1 came with the swanky magic remote. Our living room and computer area is all one room. I have an older LG TV mounted on the wall. This is what we use to watch Optik TV and such. The new C1, I'm using as a computer monitor.

    The problem:

Since both TVs are LG, the remotes are powering both TVs on and off. When my wife wants to turn the old LG off, she uses the Optik Slimline remote. She operates it from the couch, but since my new C1 is off to the left, it will turn it off as well.

I have googled and found people with the same issue. I was leaning towards putting a piece of tape over the IR receiver on the C1 to see if the signal from the Optik remotes becomes unseen since that is the biggest issue. (But still want it to see the magic remote.)

    Anyone have any other solutions?

Can you use airplay/smart home etc. to control the C1?

    Not perfect but will work.

Doesn't the LG Magic Remote works over Bluetooth?

So blocking the IR ports shouldn't impede its operation?

EDIT: Sounds like power on/off is on IR and the rest on BT. Weird set up.

Hey guys. I came up with an awful, but simple solution. I have one of those lens cleaning cloths that you use for cleaning screens and glasses. I just place it over the IR receiver on the C1 to block the signal from the Slimline remote that the wife is using. I can then use the magic remote close up on the right side of the C1 to power it on and off without interfering with the old LG.

I will agree @Xtrema .... very weird. It also appears the volume works on IR as well. My wife can change the volume on both TV's at the same time, but other functions present no issue.

Still.... would be better to have the TV's completely separate signals. I guess the easiest way of doing that is...... buying a different branded TV.

I mean. You can use separate IR blasters / remote inputs for each tv and cover the receivers with opaque tape.

And program remotes to use different blasters for different TV’s.

That’s the actual solution and what gets used for racks of similar equipment etc. But not easy or cheap.

Nothing in the menus to set this? Even my lowly Samsungs have the ability to tie a remote to a TV.

Yah I have also read about Harmony hubs and what not but this is only a temporary set-up until we move so not wanting to spend money on a fix that may not be needed in the future.

There is a way to tie the C-1 to any magic remote, but it appears certain functions like On or Off remain IR which affects the other TV.

I'm looking into what killramos said about using an app to control the C1 which would eliminate the magic remote from the equation but the Slimline remote would still affect the C1 when the wife uses the old LG.

I found this thread on reddit but there isn't a positive outcome.

Well harmony has been discontinued anyway.

Use app to control the C1 and cover the IR sensor with electrical tape. Use IR to control other TV
