Canada will unlikely require conscription. The USA on the other hand may someday require all 18 year old girls to serve (would have been a Hilary thing)

There is a very small portion of the population that would have to worry about forced military service.

Short of a nuke going off, it would literally only be 18 year old for a period of one or two years. In the event of a nation invading the UK, I can imagine Canada would go for a rotating blanket 18 to 35 rotating years. In the event of two nukes going off, 18-50 on call basis.
