Vancouver banned plastic bags a while ago, so I've been forced to live the re-usable bag life.

I don' think reusable bags are a better solution. They get thrown out often, and they don't look like they break down quickly or anything. I think a lot of them use plastic weaved cloth ffs. Each time I forget to bring one to the store I have to buy another. My plastic bag-of-bags has now been replaced with like 30 reusable ones. Stupid.

In addition, 90% of the paper bags are fucking garbage. You can't carry them properly, and they tear apart as soon as you walk out the door. I have come across a few places that have ones that are heavy duty with actual straps. I don't mind those at all, they are durable and hold up. They are rare though... should be mandated you have to provide decent paper bags if you are going to ban plastic ones.

As for plastic straws, lids, take-out containers, or utensils.... I'm not against banning plastic for those. Having recyclable or products that degrade quickly seems like a good idea given how much garbage people produce. The quality of my drinking experience with a paper straw and a plastic straw is negligible, and I could give a shit what a throw away fork is made of.

What now? JT says he doesn't care what the court says and grandstands about overruling it. Thaco comes in and pretends to be an expert. We all continue to despise takeout ruined by paper straws and wooden utensils.

Remember when paper bags were banned from grocery stores about 30 years ago because of deforestation and the torture of Spotted Owls?
    Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Progress is good and I've always hated Spotted Owls!

I was just in edmonton last weekend and I couldn't believe their plastic rules. West Ed didn't even have trays to carry your food to your table and no bags, it was unreal.

I like that instead of using my grocery store bags as garbage bags, I'm forced into buying dedicated garbage bags that are single use.

in before someone tells me to bring my garbage bags to the grocery store first.

This whole single use plastic ban was horseshit from the get go. We can ban straws but what all the other shitty plastic items out there?

Either completely wipe the earth of plastic or don't. You can't just ban some and not others without people thinking its an idiotic law.

All I know is that paper straws are the fucking worst. Just the worst. I've got some plastic ones in my car but you never end up having them when you need them

The crippling inconvenience is the key feature. It tricks morons into thinking they are making a difference.

Technically the current ones are what I call "Single use reusables". Because when you forget them in the car, or worse yet, back at home the last time you unloaded groceries, you have to buy new ones anyway.

Gotta love that they utilize 1000% more energy to create, when the anti carbon climate Nazis are the ones propagating these plastic bans in the first place.

The plastic straw thing was because of that kid's ridiculously idiotic "study".

Science is dead. Next fake pandemic that comes along will destroy society. Wait till people find out why toilets and running water matter so much.

It was technically because of two things.. One was that stupid kid and the other was about some turtle.

I love when i go grab a meal from Wendys, and i ask for a drink, and they give me a pop in a gigantic plastic cup and then give me a paper straw.

I love when they pick up my recycling and drive it half way around the city to just sit in a shredding lot.
I could very easily burn barrel it all and be better off.
    Minus the city worker jobs.

Newell County is starting up a garbage incinerator, which I think is smart for several reasons.
