I say stupid shit all the time.
A big part of it is that it just doesnt make sense! The Tacoma TRD Pro and TrailHunter have the exact same engine with the same performace specs and it uses regular. The Grand Highlander Hybrid Max (which has the same engine but different electric setup) also uses regular. So far nothing has come out or been released which can explain why these differences exist. People only found out about it as they went through the owners manual online. Even the Toyota reps had no idea at the Autoshow until they pulled it up on their info tablet. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I am attracted to the hybrid for better mileage/efficiency and so far the mileage is worse than originally estimated and some of those savings are also eaten up with premium fuel. Currently driving a 4Runner which is crappy on gas and was looking forward to something better. My lease is up in November, so I am in a bit of a time crunch to find something I like by then... My kids told me they liked the Bronco more, but not sure I could go that route. The only other vehicle at the show that I found even remotely appealing in my price range was the Volvo V60 Recharge.. but I think Im over worrying about curbs, bumps etc and still too many years ahead of carting around kids and throwing hockey bags in the back.
Neither a 'tarted up' 4 cyl turbo hybrid nor a juiced up v6 turbo make sense for offroading/overlanding, yet here we are. Most compaines have thrown out the simple engines for better performing and more efficient motors in this category...

It's not a break the bank situation regardless of the price of vehicle. If you drive 5,000 km/yr, using today's pricing of regular vs. premium using the 4Runners average L/km of 13.9, it's only a $223 difference. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

It's just an annoying requirement that was never needed for 100% of Toyota SUV owners.

The GX is definitely well packaged as a 7 seater compare to a Sequoia that just got fucked interior design-wise due to the hybrid battery pack in the back.

Its an option... but also sitting on ~25-30k if I buyout and sell. That will only go down the longer I hold on to it.

I definitely drive some of my cars less than that.
Overall, really depends how much I am at the lake in the summer.
Heck checking the data even my “mile muncher” is barely above that

It’s still not “required” …the timing will retard itself for whatever fuel is used… but what you might find is better mpg from the premium, as the timing will advance for it, more power, less load to achieve same acceleration, better mpg. At least I’ve noticed this on the last few modern turbos I’ve had. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Yes, nothing "requires" premium.

Should be the same as the LC rear.. from what I understand it will be the same engine. (Turbo 4cy hybrid, not the Tundra turb 6 cy hybrid) You can pull up specs from China alreadyThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I am thinking of taking my name off the list and getting my money back. Pretty sure it's what I am going to do cause the guy is telling me it will be a minimum 1.5 yr if he submitted an order today. Fuck that. It's not a limited edition Porsche or Lambo, I am trying to get.
I don’t get it. You are taking your name off the list because if you put your name on the list today it would take 2 years to get one?
If you don’t want one by all means take it off but your logic doesn’t compute for me

Haha Lambo badge would fix everything.
But I actually misunderstood my sales guy. He was saying if I stick to the executive package that I had initially ordered then that is expected in 6-8 months. But if I want to change the trim now (which is what I was thinking) to the off-road one, then that would be 1.5 years. I was contemplating not keeping the executive package as I don't get the impression my wife cares for it/wants it. So I was thinking to maybe just do the off-road one for myself. But if that's going to double the time line, I am just going to stick to the executive one for now and once it lands then decide if I am moving forward with it or not.
I initially thought he was saying that I would be waiting 1.5 yrs + regardless right now, which is when I was ready to take the name off the list. lol.
But I would think if these fuckers are indeed as rare as they are making them sound like, I should be able to take it, use it and flip it a year or whatever later and still not lose $.
That makes more sense
