"Come to MIT and earn your Pirate Certificate. All MIT undergraduates must complete eight points of physical education classes to graduate—but students that complete courses in archery, pistol shooting, sailing, and fencing are granted pirate status with a tangible certificate."
If he likes fencing, then ask what he thinks about learning all the aspects of the Pirate program. Not sure how old he is, so the pistol shooting might be tricky. Maybe do an airsoft equivalent with practical gun safety advice. I'm way too old and broke to do any of these things now, but sailing has always kind of fascinated me. Depending on his age, it could be cool to tell his friends that he's learning to be a pirate.
Thought this thread was about options on how to contain children with fences. Was going to recommend chain link w/ razor wire.anyone have kids in fencing?

This seems like a worthwhile pursuit. The caution is and always will be with any sport that fanaticism will be glorified and should be fiercely resisted at all costs. Unless your seed is in the top 0.25% in skill in ______ then they need to treat this as an activity/interest and not a religion.
Fill in the blank with any sport or pseudo-sport you can think of and the Golden Rule still applies. Hockey, Porsche-Club, golf, fencing, poker, Karate, PMP, boxing, power lifting, fentanyl, triathlon, scuba diving, wearing cologne, BBQ, baseball, cys-gender rugby, arson, tarot cards, 69, pokemon, Vedic mathematics, Roblox, stand-up comedy, foosbal or accordion... Learning something to a level of civilian proficiency is virtually always a reasonable weapon to add to one's arsenal.
But there has never been and will never be any value to allowing or harboring a mentality that some bullshit thing you do in your free time somehow creates your identity. Take your fucking Ironman t-shirt and BMW 3-series hat to the dump along with your "trip-6's on the river" and your "Nat hatty in Midget provies" on your way past the zero people who give zero fucks.
Just learn things to gain insights and experiences. The more the merrier. But beware that cults exist within these activities and they are constantly recruiting. Be better than that.
