    Question What size carb?

    I'm putting together a 383 stroker for my S-10 and I was wondering what size carb I should put on it? I've got a 650 edelbrock on the 350 thats in it now, but was thinking about going to an 800? Wise or not?

    I'd stick with a well tuned 750 for your motor. The biggest mistake most people make with carbs is getting a carb too big for their motor. A carb that is too big will give poor performance and throttle response, tuning hassles and poor fuel economy.

    The rule of thumb for carbs is:
    CFM = CID x RPM x VE ÷ 3456

    CID = Cubic Inches of your motor
    RPM = Max RPM
    VE = volumetric efficiency( 1 for 100%, 0.80 for 80%(average) etc)

    There are some calculators online that'll do it for you though, like http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...ools/carb.html which takes into account different intakes as well.

    THe formula is for average engines - but works when you take into account the efficiency of your motor. Assuming you have a proper intake, heads, headers and your cam your VE is probably around 90. VE above 100% is in supercharged/turbo'd engines.

    how hot is this 383 gonna be? What kind of compression, valves, heads etc? This also dictates the amount of carb you should get. Are you gonna run a power adder as well (supercharger, Nitrous). My bro's s10 started out with a holley 650 abut now is running different heads with more comp, and the new Holley 800 works great after tuning. he is also planning on a either forced induction or nitrous. Most likley nitrous.

    I'm throwing on some 305 heads to boost compression. Putting in 9:1 comp. pistons, edelbrock air gap intake, heddmen headders manley valves, comp cams energizer cam, lifters, push rods, valve springs and roller rocker arms, eagle 400 crank, eagle aluminum piston rods, running an electric fan and a possible electric water pump. Running a turbo 350 behind it.

    sounds like a pretty hot setup. my bro runs a simmilar setup except his heads are different. What lift #'s on the cams? Aluminum crank and rods! wow that's a pretty big chunk of change! but ver sweet. Electric fan is a must! There are actually 3 on my bro's 2 on the usual side pulling air and another on the other side pushing air through. Elec water pump is a good piece but not really needed, the stock 350 one is good, just make sure and get a nice BIG rad. The turbo350 is fine, you may want to have it rebuilt just to be sure but stock ones have seen upwards of 500hp and tq on the stock tranny. The 10 bolt diff though may be the prob. Easy to swap out the 10 for the 12 but gettin your tires to fit underneath is the prob. If upwards of 500 tq us your goal the change the diff but if not just have it rebuilt and throw a locker in it. My bro used a diff out of a newer sonoma with lsd and higher gearing and it works great! we'll see what happens if he decides to use slicks, cuz traction is now the problem! too much

    You could pull off a 750cfm, I got a buddy with a similar setup on a 350 and he says the only significant problem is fuel economy which I am guessing you are not too worried about. However the 650 sounds like a good approach as well, will definately work well and save you some $$$

    I think the rearend with the LSD is out of newer ones, like 95+ (not sure on exact year when the new ones started) I think the LSD on my bro's is off a 2001, he went to the dealer to get it.
